Intelligent Key Door Request Button Replacement
haven't seem much info on here or the net other than guys experiencing their door request buttons failing. This is for the 05-06 models with intelligent key.
I noticed my driver's door button working on and off about a year. It continually got worse and i could get it to work by wiggling it or pressing harder. Eventually, it died completely. Since the keyless entry feature is my fave part of the car, i wanted to fix this ASAP as i hate digging my keys out of the pocket now to get in my car.
So i bought a couple handles off ebay for parts and to see how the button goes together.
It's a simply, momentary button that's potted in it's own unique housing. It's also part of a small harness that connects to the wireless receiver that senses the key nearby. BOTH SIDES ARE IDENTICAL, so you can use a pass handle to fix the driver's side. You simply remove the harness and swap it in.
Here's the passenger handle I got. Same as driver's side minus the key slot hole. The black box is the wireless receiver and the harness is the one you are removing.
There are 3 screwed holding the harness and button in place, and 2 for the wireless receiver. They are blue loct-tited in place, and the screws are soft and easily strip, so be careful here and use a good screwdriver and possibly some heat.
The button is removed by simply unscrewing one side of this metal plate, and looseing the other slightly.
Unclip the harness from the wireless receiver and then remove 1 more screw in the center of the handle to free the harness.
This is what you will have, and bothdriver's and passenger side is identical. I do not know the OEM part number for this harness, but it would be great to know
Testing the button is easy. It's a momentary switch that's normally open. Simply use a meter on the plug and press the button and it shoud make a connection.
Next up, when i get some time, is figureing out how to remove the handle from my door and replace the bad harness in there. Something tells me it's going to be a little tricky.
