G35X love it and Hate it... well not really

Ok so all in all I LOVE this sedan! but two things bug the crap out of me... First the oil dipstick is sooooo stupid I cant believe it. Whoever designed it should be beaten with a big stick. So ok I know ill have to live with it and make sure I keep a light handy if I ever attempt to check the oil at night. Second why is it such a process to change the air filter ?? its not hard but seems like it is not very user friendly considering what you have to do to get to it in comparison to how easy it is on the 2nd gen...is there a way to swap the 2nd gen airbox into the first gen?

Not sure i understand what's so difficult about changing the air filter. A 10mm nutdriver is all you need and it doesn't take long to have it out.

However, to answer your question, no you cannot swap the 2nd gen setup (with dual throttle bodies) onto the first get.

Well I hate my wife's g35x. Hard to find parts for it other than OEM, feels like a very cheap car when I drive it compared to the sticker price. Not just the oil dipstick, who designs a spindle with pressed in ball joints but don't offer a replacement ball joint, just a new spindle with a pre pressed ball at a mark up of over 100%.

I could go on and on about the thing but no need to make the people who love these cars mad, it will be my wife's first and last nissan/infinti product. I know everything breaks and there isn't a vehicle out there that doesn't but this car has turned me off them big time. All of my cars other than the brand new truck I bought have exceeded over 350 0000- 500 000 kms but this thing will not even come close. I give it one more year than it can hit the road.

Wow. 2006 X for me Skeeter, with 180,000 miles, and really, other than sourcing the parts (which is a beeotch), I don't have any quality issues with my car. Even when it was banging around like a dishwasher due to bad bushings and shocks, it still felt secure and handled well at highway speeds. Now, with the new arms and rods, it feels firm and new even on washboard roads. I will admit, this does not ride like a luxury vehicle - it is way too stiff to do that.

Another thing - tires make or break this car, especially the X. I had some Michelin Primacy MXV4's, and those were amazing. Now, I think I've got some BF Goodrich all seasons from Sam's Club, and even with them inflated to 40 PSI, the sidewall roll is still ridiculous, and since the PSI is so high, the bounce over bumpy roads is bad, creating a no-win situation.

Ok this was ment more of a sarcastic post than a true rant. I really like the car but I do truly hate the dipstick lol... Mustang I ment it was way more involved than pulling the filter tray on a second gen.

Well the dipstick does suck.

Every car has crap that sucks on it. Every car has a few models that fall apart at 100K miles as well. Cars in general are just depreciating liabilities that suck more money from us than Uncle Sam sometimes

The eBay ball joints are compatible with the G35x models.

I agree with the oil dipstick. Poorly designed.

I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.

Every time I turn on Defrost the AC comes on, so I then turn off the AC. I know the AC is used to dry out the air, but my old 1986 toyota pickup defrost works fine w/o AC. Why the need for AC?

Auto-dimming mirror sucks.

The Auto setting on the Headlight switch shouldn't be the first click.

Agree that the dipstick is stupid.

Gas mileage is OK, I've found that driving with a heavy foot gets the same or better mileage than trying to baby it. More fun for me too.

The AWS system is pretty sweet. Performance and handling is pretty good.

I know people complain about the stereo, but I think it sounds pretty good, although it's missing mp3 capability.

Heated seats are nice.

Need to do some looking into the clunking coming from the front end. Compression/tension rods or bushing or something.

G35x needs a manual trans and a turbo, similar to GTR, that would make up for all the negatives.

I also have a clunking sound only when braking. The garage couldn't find the issue. So far I have replaced worn out front wheel bearings and the front driver's side ball joint.

I've been reading the posts, and I suspect it's the lower control arm bushings? I have the Whiteline lower control arm bushings but now I'm thinking of just buying the control arms and compression arms.
