Removing Chrome window trim panel for repair?

Windy night here. Driving along and had a tree branch come down on my car. Not a huge one, but enough to put a decent dent in the corner of my roof where the top of the rear door meets, along with some light scrapes down the side.

I prob won't repair the dent in the roof (UGH!) but the chrome window trim sustained some damage as well. It's pretty noticeable due to the way light reflects off the trim.

Is there a way to remove the chrome trim, so that i can replace it?

This is gonna bother me. First body damage to my car. :-(

So far I know that this part is made of PVC and pages 309-334 of the Body, Lock, etc section go into detail about what it is... but not how to remove it.

Thanks, I took a peek on Ebay and didn't see any for sale, so i get a feeling this isn't an easily removed part.

This AM i took a quick peek at it. If you peel back the weatherstripping, it looks like the chrome trim clips onto the window frame, and if oyu get a long thin screwdriver, you can get behind it and pry it off.

I also noticed it's pretty secure, which means it probably has a good amount of double stick tape on the backside. Also meaning it would be tough to remove this peice and not damage it at all which means i'd prob need to head to dealer, and ask if they sell this part so i can get a new one.

To make it worse, i discovered the branch also created a crease in my quarter right near my driver's taillight.

Argh

Ah man, that sucks! I wonder if there's a G-sedan in a local junkyard you could experiment with pulling the trim off of first, before trying it on your own car? I used to do stuff like that BITD with my Monte Carlo. That way, an already wrecked car takes one for the team.

I would, but with the currently melting snow, the local yards near me are total mud pits right now. Hit or miss if any of them would have a G sedan as i've never seen one there either.

I'll need a few weeks to get in there to check for one.

Use an actual plastic pry tool so you don't damage the metal around it!
