Hello everyone, just got my 05 g35 and I have oil questions

Hello everyone, I just bought my 2005 g35 with 79k and I would like to know what oil should I use. The car was always maintained at the dealer, when I asked about switching to synthetic oil they told me not to do it. Is this true? I used synthetic oil in all my previous cars without any problems. I would like to know if it's too late to switch and if not what oil should I consider. best oil for 2005 infiniti g35

Thank you and nice meeting you all!!

I run AMS full synthetic 5w-30.
If I forget to order that I go with Royal Purple.
Synthetic will make you burn more oil quicker. VQ motors tend to love eating oil. So you'll burn more oil, but just keep tabs on it and you'll be fine

Run whatever oil you want. As long as you aren't putting Bob's discount recycled oil in the car, and use a quality brand of lube and stay on top of the oil level and oil changes, you'll be fine. Everyone's going to chime in on what oil they use in their car, but really, with today's modern oil technology you can't go wrong with any of them. I personally have used Castrol GTX Conventional oil since day 1 and continue to do so. You don't HAVE to run synthetic oil, although it certainly won't hurt to do so.

Bigger concern is oil level. Keep a quart of oil in your trunk. The VQ tends to burn oil sometimes and a more dangerous situation would be to run low on oil. Every 500 miles or so, check the dipstick and add oil if you are low. 5 qts on a fresh oil change is to the very top of the hash mark area. When you are at the very bottom of the hash mark area on the dipstick, you are 1 qt low, so add accordingly.

I've run Castrol Syntec 5w30 in our I35 for the past 5 years and have had 2 positive used oil analysis reports back from Blackstone. Needless to say, I run the same in my G. The G doesn't see many miles, but I change the I's oil every 5k miles.

He suggests not to because Infiniti suggests mineral oil in the owners manual. I take this to heart a bit because I feel there's a reason; not necessarily that its a better for metal to metal lubrication, but I'm thinking it has something to do with the types of gaskets they use and how they react to mineral vs synthetic. I have ZERO proof of this, but that's the only reason I can think of.

That being said, for metal to metal protection, heat dissipation, etc. Synthetic wins hands down. It does burn easier tho. For all reasons to use either one, I use synthetic blend just cuz it makes me feel better and I'm happy with it, but plenty use full syn.

Just gonna have to practice. That dipstick is ridiculous.

As far as changing, go for it if that's what you wanna do. Won't hurt anything.

Welcome to Driver Tylko Kazik! Oh yea, our dip stick is a challenge! Come prepared with a paper towel and flash light if needed and a whole lot of patience. I would switch to synthetic, it runs cooler and cleaner than dino oil with far less build up! Whatever you've used in the past should work with your G35 with the exception of Royal Purple which most members disliked. Costco sells Mobil1 5w/30 by the case at a reasonable price. It's always good to use quality filters like WIX and change it at 2K miles the first time you've switched...Gary

Thank Gary, I will be switching to synthetic my next oil change then. I had bad experience with my maxima burning Mobil one so I might go with Castrol on the G. As for filters I'll stick with oem or a good aftermarket one if something is on sale with oil. My next problem is the trans and diff fluid, I want to change that next. How often do you change your trans and diff fluid? Is there a transfer case or is that only on x? Thanks again

Because royal purple is real drag race oil. Real drag racers change their oil every few passes down the strip. Its not an oil made with longevity in mind. Its incredible oil for high heat, high abuse engines for a short period. Doesn't necessarily have the type of detergents used for a daily driver

Purolator makes great filters for our Cars. They're slightly longer than others (more surface area of filter paper). I would try a different oil for the next 3 changes and see which pans out better. Do one with conventional, one with a blend and one with full syn. Take note of how much it burns, where the therm guage needle sits at normal operating temp and the pedal feel of each. No problem with going back n forth for your own quasi-research.

I think I read somewhere (can't recall exactly) that its good for something like 700-800 miles normally. They are making more commercial stuff now too tho, so it depends on what you're buying.

Oreilys. But I honestly rarely use it. I try to stick with AMS. But it's so hard to get ahold of. I used to have a friend who works at the Harley dealer order me it
