clutch and flywheel replaced for $1700+tax in sacramento area?

Good morning everyone,

i have a 06 g35 coupe that requires clutch replacement. Repair shop in Orangevale called Mikes Auto Repair is asking for $1700 +tax for the repair. He's quoting me $650 for the clutch, $600 for the flywheel (due to the dual mask, cant be refinished), and $450 for labor... Is this a fair price? My car has about 95K miles on it and never replaced the clutch... does that flywheel absolutely need replacement? Please help. I feel like im getting ripped off.

Thank you!

Kyle has been rockin' this deal for about Ten years now and I don't think it's gone up much since I bought mine about 5-6 years ago.

I think it's around $800 for everything and then some.

My mechanic installed it for $400 at the time.

Yes, you need to replace the flywheel. The factory flywheel cannot be machined. The JWT has replaceable friction surfaces. However, you will get some chatter at idle.

BTW, at the time (5 yrs ago) the dealer wanted $2200.00 to replace with OEM, so no, I don't think he ripping too bad.

Won't replace the parts if you provide them? That's the rip off. I've never heard of a shop not doing that.

All I know is that the only time I did not either machine it or replace it, I regretted it big time. Within a couple of weeks the clutch was chattering like a chipmunk and shaking the whole car when engaging.

A lot of shops are like that. They don't want to invest their time installing crap parts only to have to deal with the owner blaming them when something goes amiss.

I can't blame them. If i'm going to stand behind my work, I want to have a say in the parts I install. I wouldn't want to install someone's crappy Ebay parts.

You are 100% correct. To go along with this, most shops provide some type of warranty on their work. Although it is typically only about 30-90 days that's the main idea behind it.

most shops don't mark up parts around my way **** that

Any time I've done it they just say they won't warranty the parts. Which basically means they won't warranty anything. Never been told they won't do it tho.

nope, as someone who worked at a shop i can tell you its complete BS, shops make money on selling you parts because they get them at a big discount. usually its a 35-45% markup Guaranteed. If they tell you otherwise, they are LYING.
