Normal oil consumption

I owned my 04 G35 Coupe for 10 1/2 years before selling it last year. I never remember checking oil as I religiously changed it every 5,000 miles with Mobile 1. My girlfriend purchased her 06 G35 sedan new and now has 72,000 miles on it. I did notice many years ago then when she started it cold it would show a little blue smoke on start up when cold and it was fine after that. She changes her oil every 6,000 miles with Mobil 1. The car now has about 5300 miles on it since the last oil change and I decided to check the oil level. The stick read halfway between the full and the low. I will make the assumption that would equate to 1/2 a quart of oil? Is that normal for the 06 G35 Auto sedan? We did check the valve cover gaskets a few years ago before the end of the warranty and they were fine. I know the high rev 6mt had oil consumption issues, but her dip stick reading doesn't seem like very much for the miles driven. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

That's normal for any car (however, I think that's more than a half a quart by what you describe). Not sure why you guys go so long between oil changes. I wouldn't go past 3500 miles. I know oils claim to be good for longer these days, but between burning and contamination, I still believe in the 3k mile oil change. Your car tho.

6k is fine for daily drivers that you check each fill up. I'm amazed that I still get funny looks for checking my oil at the gas station.

For once I agree with ScraggleRock! You members that go 6K miles between changes don't respect what you drive! I drive 6K miles a year and change oil/filter twice using Mobil1 10W/30 and WIX oil filters!

My OC has gotten progressively worse. Around 70K miles or so, i was drinking about 1/2-3/4 qt of oil per oil change (3500 miles or so) and now at 155K miles, i ad about 1.5 qt's between oil changes.

I just carry a couple quarts in the trunk, and check the oil every 500 miles or so.

1/2 qt to 5300 miles? I say you are doing pretty good. I'd prob have to add 2 qts at that point.

If you question your change interval, have an analysis done. Blackstone is around $30 or so. Well worth it for the peace of mind I.M.O.
I put very little miles on my G during the summer, (about 1500), and change the oil annually.
Our I35 is a daily driver and I change it every 5K miles. I've had 2 analysis reports done and both have come back very good. I use Castrol Syntec and Wix, (Carquest premium), filters.
At 130k it uses a quart between oil changes.

on a lot of cars (not all) the cross hatches on the dipstick equals 1 quart. if your only burning 1/2 a quart in that time frame your good. I do my oil changes every 3K and when i do it i drain 1/2 quart plug it, add 1/2 a quart of transmission fluid and run it for about 20-30 seconds. then proceed with my regular oil change.

mustang5l5, 2 quarts seems a lot, have you checked your plugs lately?

I changed mine at 7500 with M1 and filter. It has 145,000 now and uses about one quart every 2700 miles.

My Nissan Frontier V6 I do the same, it now has 143,000 and it uses NO oil at all between changes. However this truck does 98% highway miles. I still have the original brakes too.

Only at 100K miles, and they were dry. I need to check again soon though.

I do know my cooler O-ring is leaking though. I need to replace that next oil change, but i doubt that would make up that much oil loss as i oil have a very small drip from it.

I went way too long on my last oil change and it was down 2 quarts. I felt like an idiot.
