I've been using HAWK HPS pads for 50K miles and I wouldn't use anything else! Doing the "Bed In Process" gives you 30% better bite! (Search Hawk bed in process) They're available here on our Marketplace under vendor brakes at great price plus they leave very little brake dust on your wheels...Gary

My preference is the OEM pads with centric rotors.

Had the Akebono ACT's and wasn't really excited about them. On cold days in the winter they required a few good stops to build some heat to work well. Dust and noise was on par with OEM. Personally, I just swapped back to OEM pads up front and the cold bite is much better.

I've never liked Hawk pads....personal bad experiences with them on other cars.

Though I often value your opinion and agree with you the majority of the time...

OEM pads shed far too much brake dust for my liking.

Hawk HPS pads, on the several cars I have used them on, have better bite, far less break dust, and just as quiet and easy on the rotors as the OEM pads. I really don't see any advantage in going with OEM over Hawk HPS.

Hawk Ceramic produce even less dust than HPS, but a corresponding loss of bite. Just as quiet and rotor "friendly".

Akebono Ceramic have even less bite than Hawk Ceramic, but no real noticeable reduction to brake dust, so wouldn't recommend them.

I installed Akebono Ceramics on my old Benz that had the AMG upgraded brakes installed (the brakes where the best performance parts on the car) and they performed fine, so the quality of your rotors/calipers do make a difference. But on my 4,000 pound Audi, the Akebono Ceramics feel a little wooden and a little more pedal pressure is required than I would like.

See, I don't notice that. My wheels stay relatively clean. I tend to wash my car pretty frequently, so I don't really get black, dark wheels in the 2-3 weeks between washes. There's definitely some dust on the wheel, but it's not too bad.

It's nowhere what the OEM 03-04 pads do in terms of brake dust.

I currently have the Akebono's on the rear of my car...and dust is about the same really.

Red face Brakes/rotors

Any recommendations on rotors? Should I stay with plain or go to drilled/slotted? I have a 2007 g35 sedan. I want to upgrade the OEM. I drive aggressive, daily driver.

Once around the block with OEM pads and your wheels are filthy and they don't last much more than 10K miles!

I use DBA slotted/drilled rotors, they not only look but extend the life of your pads because they run cool and can be turned after 30 to 40K miles. DBAs along with HAWK HPS pads are available from our Marketplace under vendor brakes...Gary

I tried HPS (Holy Piece of Shiz), I know every body thinks otherwise.

I agree they have great bite
I agree they have no dust

What I hated was NO BITE AT ALL when it's wet AND cold. For about a 1/2 a second it's like you have NO BRAKES, then they bite as normal, but I just couldn't get used to it and went to an OEM type ceramic pad. Yes I followed the "bed in" instruction to the letter.

I also had bad luck with EBC "Green Stuff" pads, had great bite, ate rotors like candy.

Also, my fancy cross drilled Centric rotors cracked after a month. Went back to OEM.
