I use DBA slotted/drilled rotors, they not only look but extend the life of your pads because they run cool and can be turned after 30 to 40K miles. DBAs along with HAWK HPS pads are available from our Marketplace under vendor brakes...Gary

I'm getting ~60K miles out of OEM pads....and very little dust.

These aren't the same as the 03/04 pads. Those were the ones that prompted the TSB due to premature wear and excessive dust.

It depends on the year, 2004 and earlier was dust city, 2005+ was no dust.

What I hated was NO BITE AT ALL when it's wet AND cold. For about a 1/2 a second it's like you have NO BRAKES, then they bite as normal, but I just couldn't get used to it and went to an OEM type ceramic pad. Yes I followed the "bed in" instruction to the letter.
I'm with you as well. I live where it gets to around 0 degrees for a good chunk of the year and found the Hawk's lacked bite when it was cold. I had to give it a few nice hard stops to get some heat in the brakes and then they worked wonderfully. Same deal when driving on the highway. 1 hour with the cruise control on when it was cold out and then get off the highway and you'd have no brakes for a few seconds. Really hated this and chucked them in the track.

I'm sure if you live where it's warm, or always drive aggressively, this isn't an issue, but for my daily driver's, where I let my g/f (who drive's slow and grandmaish) drive the kid around, Its not acceptable.

I also ran the Akebono ACT's for a while. Performance/dust/noise was like OEM, but these ate my Centric rotors up pretty well.

Their rotors are sweet, but they are expensive. But it's nice to see a manufacture focus on internal vane design to promote cooling, vs thinking drilling 500 holes cools it better.

I would stick with OEM or a aftermarket Ceramic.

If this is just a daily driven car, no need to overthink things....OEM (for a 2006) pads and Centric premium blank rotors are my recommendation.
