Oil changes (poll): do your own or go to dealer?
I got my G35 sedan at the end of last month and am contemplating maintenance options. So I'm curious about what other people are doing for oil changes and other minor maintenance. Do it yourself? Infiniti dealer? Nissan dealer? Another auto repair shop? Quick-lube shop?

Do it ALL dammit
"I" do it,be it general maintanence or hardcore cosmetic/power modifications. It's not just a matter of saving money as it is personally cathartic. Obviously, we all love our cars from the pure driving aspect....BUT, I find the ownership experience is greatly enhanced when you/I are part of the equation. It's so VERY rewarding when "I" make a modification that results in enhanced handling, power, or just plain cosmetics. And, just the learning experience alone makes the time, effort, and money worth while....not to mention a project/desire/wish that YOU'VE made come to fruition. Of course there are times that you need a dealership for assistance, but doing it yourself is truly the "Cat's A*s"! I broke my car in the "hard way" like any engine ( motorcycle OR car ) that I've ever built. And, at 1500 miles I changed/switched to Mobil 1 with a K&N filter and then AGAIN at 3,000 miles. Now I change it every 5,000 with OIL ANALYSIS done at every other one. I really suggest that anybody who considers themself an enthusiast....GET INVOLVED and do it.....Don't know how?? THEN BUY A MANUAL AND LEARN ! JBX has left the forum

I'm only at 124 miles, so my first oil change is a few weeks off. (I'll probably do the first change @ 500 miles) My plan how ever when I bought the car was to do my own changes, so at the closing I asked for some oil filters, instead of filters the sales manager gave me a coupon for a few free oil changes and also said that their is more where that came from depending on how I filled out the Infiniti Dealer survey.
Long story short...I'll take all the free oil changes I can get than start doing them on my own.

Oil chang'n
Wait until you're done with your break in miles (about 1,500) and then go syn. I am firm in my belief that the OEM filters suck and that a good quality after mkt. filter is worth the few extra bucks. The stk. filters cost the dealership about $1.25 and the shop oil ...not a lot more. Besides, instead of removing the baffle from the bottom of the engine to gain access to the filter, they (most mechanics) just BEND it down to save time.....NICE! Also,if the dealer was good to you from the 'get go' they shouldn't have to bribe you with some inferior oil changes to get a good CSI???. It's nothing more than a gesture that costs him nadda....no? I realize that you're sav'n a few bucks ....BUT, after you spent mucho bucks on a beatiful car don't ya wanna follow through with quality maintenance?. Good luck with your new ride..it's a great car....JBX

I get a free wash, with a fill-up, at my local Sunoco station as well. BUT, I'd still rather wash my own car. I do a better job, AND I am much more inclined to be mindful of scratches and attention to detail. Oh well,.... I guess my previous posts don't make the point I thought they would. I just feel as though my $30,000 plus car deserves an **** owner...lol. Take a little PRIDE in what you ride ! Take care, JBX

Love doing my own work, including all fluid changes, brake maintenance, tune-ups (such as it is), washing, and anything else it needs.
As many have said, no-one takes care of your baby like you do, and as JustBrilliantX says, there is much pride and satisfaction in working on your own ride.

I had it done at the dealer the first few times but now I do it myself.
I agree with JustBrilliantX about doing mods and regular work to your car. It really does bring some sense of accomplishment and reward when im done doing the work.
Thats why im going to do my coupe mid-pipe install myself . For that reason and because it appears to be easy

You've convinced me. Next change is mine. I used to do it myself on previous cars. Gotta show the G some love with some good stuff.
