Ignition issues with '06 35x

Hey folks, I was hoping someone here would have some advice.

I recently had some warning lights pop on
- Slip warning
- VDC OFF
- Service Engine light

the last time those came on, all I needed to do was top off the break fluid, but this time im having a problem with the engine cranking, but not starting.

First thing I did was replace the batter, as it still had the 9 year old original battery, and I know that it didn't have much life left on it. That allowed the car to crank good and hard, but its still taking a longer time to start, or it won't start at all.

Being only somewhat mechanically inclined, i did some googling and seems that it could be a fuel pump issue (although I don't think so; the engine is not having issues with it when its driving) or maybe a spark plug /firing issue.

I'd rather avoid taking into a mechanic unless I really have no other options.

Any advice?

thanks!

Check engine light is on. First step is to get the code read. Find a friend with a scanner, buy a scanner, download the app and buy a wifi/Bluetooth dongle, or go to autozone and ask to use their scanner.

Get code number...then we can begin diagnostics. No point guessing if the car has generated a code

Likely a can position sensor code. Pull the code and report back.

Looks like Urbanengineer was right. All it needs is a new sensor to be put in. I'm pretty happy that's it!
