Glad my 05 has a rev limiter!
I have owned my first G35 for just a couple months now (purchased with only 34000 miles). I use manual mode from time to time for that extra off-line "punch" but am still getting use to the upshift/downshift orientation. This past weekend I took off in manual and got mixed up and instead of shifting to 2nd from 1st (paddle up) I went down! The car basically would not go any faster (that was good) and jerked. I did the same thing again going into 3rd! I figure no damage was done but it really bugged me that I did this. I am using manual mode less often now. Anyone else over rev their G35 in manual mode?

I did not say that specifically, I said using manual mode gave it some extra "punch" - second gear is the real difference - I can rev up to the redline then shift to 3rd. I find 0-60 using Manual Mode is quicker than keeping it in auto at least it certainly feels like that (I have not timed it). And having control over the shift points is nice sometimes.
Unless you have a grounding kit, you don't really have control over the shift points.
You also have an AT, so you can't "rev up" to the redline.
Are you also aware that going to the redline isn't an ideal shift point?

[QUOTE=Mustang5L5;7025878]I think we are picking apart the OP's post a bit much.
I think he was just trying to say he was out having fun.[/QUOTE.
My bad. I guess I should have considered not posting such an incondite thread.

Explain that grounding kit thing? I don't see the correlation. Yes a grounding kit makes the transmission shift faster but no it doesn't give you full control over the shift points. Uprev can do that for you though.
Did someone **** in everyones cereal or something?
And depending on your ECU whether it's in granny mode or not. Manual mode does help with spirited driving.
In granny mode it will shift earlier and there's a huge hesitation from the car when stomping on the pedal.

When you shift up, there is a delay in the actual shift time. The grounding kit would eventually help "fix" that delay. But no, not an actual control over shift points.
