G Not stable when driving in thunder storm in SoCal the past 2 weeks?

At 20k miles your lack of control may be the fact that the tires have no tread left on them. Dumb question: have you inspected your tires m500?

Just had my tire rotation down 3 month ago and my dealer told me the tires are still good. They looks new and with a lot of tread left.

Just inspect them myself and its has 5mm tread left. Is this good? How do you tell its time to change? I usually wait till its down to 2 - 3mm.

TIRES!!!

I have the same problem here in Memphis. We ALWAYS get rain, and I can't believe how poorly the tires handle the wet roads.

Maybe you should slow down in the rain. Especially if you're concerned about safety. Driving 65-70 MPH in a rainstorm is not safe driving. All it takes is on puddle to hydroplane you into a ditch.

I was force to drive around 40 - 50 mph with my G due to the bad traction/stability on the wet road but the rear still keep sliding out. I guess the tires on these OEM 17s are really bad in faul weather. I'll need to shop around for a set of better tires and upgrade my wheeels as well.

**hmm, better yet maybe I should save my money and just get an AWD model.

I only have two 'mods' to my otherwise stock sedan. An AEM CAI, and four F1-GSD3's.

...The CAI is fun and entices me to open it up more than usual
...But the tires? They're the best mod I think I could have done to my car. After I replaced the stockers with those it was truly like driving a completely different car. It went from a Ford Taurus feel to a Porsce 911 feel.

If you have the Turanza EL42s it's the tires. I never felt those tires were stable in the rain at all from Day 1. I replaced them around 20,000 miles with Pilot Sport A/S and the difference is night and day. I've driven in a lot of rain being an Oregonian and they were the worst tires I've ever had for rain.

P.S. Hey you Californians! Give us our rain back!

OMG! i had the same stupid problem. i thought it was either my tires (BFG KDWs) or my alignment.

but my slip light never comes on. it may be becasue i have my stockers on the front and the BFG in a much wider size in the rears.

i swear my car gets tossed around by those truck grooves in the rain. sometimes even when its dry i feel my car's rear slide out a bit just going straight.



what are you guys getting your alignments speced at? the last guys who did mine were complete idiots who speced them to the I35 specs. i should go kick his lazy a$$

The bigger/wider the tire - the higher the chance it will hydroplane. Smaller/narrower tires are better for heavy rain.

The design of the tire and it's intended use also makes all the difference.

With that being said, I took my 2005 6MT on a long drive today with constant rain and puddles on the highways - mostly country roads of highly varying surfaces, not Interstate. I was a little nervous, considering this thread and the poor reviews of the Turanza ER33 on Tire Rack - which is the OEM in a 235/45-18 size.

It was great. I've had nice, heavy cars that were very stable in the rain due to a lot of weight on the tires, but the G35 completely impressed me... no problems with traction, and much better grip in starting/braking and corners than I ever imagined it could have under these conditions. No issues with surface irregularities, either. All things considered, I couldn't be happier.

I got up to 80 mph in heavy rain on the 210 west, stable as ever.
