Perhaps it is your driving style or under inflated tires

Just did a round trip from NJ to Florida and got excellent MPG

The two best tankfuls were Va to SC 249 miles, 9.448.gallons to fillup for a 26.35 MPG
On the return Va to NJ 301 miles and 11.474 gallons to fillup for a 26.23 MPG

On the trip down to Florida 1243 miles and used 50.423 gallons for a 24.65 MPG
On the return trip back to NJ 1212 miles and used 48.05 gallons for a 25.22 MPG

All on regular 87 octane.

My tires are inflated to 35lbs when cold

I have no complaints of my highway MPG

You can see the lowered MPG for short trips while in Florida

BTW I never use cruise control because it lowers 1-2 MPG.
