So this is new to me, I come back to car parked in parking lot get in and I hear a slight hum, what ever.. try and start car... seems like dead battery, turns over slowly but no start. after spending a few minutes with AAA guy, we determine the battery is fine, however the car stays on with engine off even though the ignition is in off position and key fully removed. If I turn ignition to on position the dash lights come on and all systems shut off including that hum which I assume is the fuel pump? try and crank the engine and slow crank and after few tries it seems like bat is dead... but its not! remove key from ignition dash lights off... but system stays on !

yeah im guessing something with the ignition gizmo in the steering column got fried... Any help would be greatly appreciative.

Definitely sounds like an issue with the electrical system or a faulty ignition switch. Have you done or had done any work on the car recently? I'd get a copy of the FSM (search psedog on here to find the link to it) and look up grounding points then check them all for any loose connections. Also check out your fuseboxes looking for any that are blown. Make sure you check the one inside the car and also the one behind the battery in the engine bay. Not sure how to troubleshoot an ignition switch, might need a trip to a local mechanic for that. If you've got plenty of $$$ might want to take it to the dealership.
