Re: Air filter removal

I went to the dealership and asked them to show me how to change
the filter. It is a little complicated, but I am able to do it in less than
3 minutes. I also bought a K&N air filter. Please see my posting about
K&N filter dilema. My gas mileage dropped with the K&N filter installed,
but I like the acceleration improvemant. How do you like yours?
You need to reset the computer.

Take your time any study where your obvious attachment points are. Carefully remove them (taking digital pics is a good idea for future reinstallation purpose) and follow the K&N instructions. It's no more complicated than checking your tire pressure....it just takes longer...lol. You'll get it, and appreciate it that much more 'cause ....You did it yourself. UBCool, jbx

Took me about 15 to 20 minutes trying to think and remove the filter and 1 minute to put the k&n in.
1. I removed the center scoop. (not sure if it is necessary, just thought it would be easier)
2. Remove the bolt near the fender that hold down the box.
3. Release the 4 clips.
4. Push as hard as you can to separate the box and front scoop apart. The box needs to be push back and up so the filter can get out.
5. Drop in the k&n, somehow it is so easy to drop in.

Maybe there is a better way, please let me know.

Don't forget to "unlock" the rad supports -- it gives you more room to pull the assembly apart to replace the filter.

The ECU has to relearn the new air flow, so to make this process quicker, you can do an ECU reset.
Otherwise it takes longer, but will gradually relearn anyway.

Hey Cato (and others who have a K&N), how is the gas mileage now? Has it improved or is it still worse? If you could post numbers that'd be great. I'm just curious if a high flow filter makes any difference in gas mileage.
