I had to replace the rack & pinion assembly back when the car was still under the factory warranty. I think it was around 55K miles.

You should have checked your tires more often AND gotten a real alignment. Hopefully there were lessons learned here.....

Oh yeah, lesson learned. Anytime suspension work is done get an alignment. Cheap insurance for your tires. I could have gotten about two more years out of mine if not for the uneven wear. 4 new tires AND and an alignment and I'm good to go.
