Shift Lever Problem

I have a 2004 G35. I recently had the clutch replaced. That was about 3 months ago. The other day as I was driving I shifted the lever and noticed that the shift lever assembly was way over to the right. I’m not talking about the shifter being in 6th gear. Example, when in first gear the shifter is where third gear used to be. The entire shifter assembly mechanism was leaning over to the right.

When I got home I removed the shifter console cover to expose the mechanism attached to the transmission. I found what I expected, the shifter and the lower adjusting plate assembly, that is attached to the lower support bracket, is shifted (moved) to the right so much that you can’t slip your finger between it and the access hole of the mechanism. The lower support bracket, that is attached to the transmission, is not damaged or loose.

This doesn't make any sense to me.
Has anyone had this problem? What needs to be done to correct this condition?

Look for a broken transmission mount, the entire driveline could have shifted.

Thanks for your reply. I'll have to get under there and see if there is misalignment.

Thanks again.
