Instrument Cluster Reset

Instrument Cluster Reset
I recently pulled out the instrument cluster out of my 2005 G35x to do a soldering repair that I saw to possibly fix a gas gauge problem. I had already checked the tank floats prior to this. After removing the instrument cluster, I removed the gauge needles so I could lift out the bezel to get to the 4 screws in order to get to the circuit board. After doing my repair, I put the assembly back together, tightened the 4 screws, laid down the bezel, carefully put the needles back on where they would zero out on the pins and after full assembly and starting the car up, my gauges are reading higher than they should. Is there a way to do an instrument cluster full motion range reset?

+1 on the cluster self test mode. Just press/hold the odometer reset button in while you turn the key to on (no start) then release/ push 3 times within 5s. This will put the cluster in self test mode with all the odometers segments lit etc. Once in this mode, if you push the odometer button, the needles all go to preset points so you put your needles back on (water temp - 50%, fuel - 50%, speedo - 30mph i think, tach - 2k i think). check the fuel gauge problem detailed thread for a picture of the needle locations.
I just did the same cluster solder repair and it resolved my fuel gauge stuck at half problem. My fuel level indication isn't perfect even after setting the needles properly though. It's set perfectly at 50% during the self test but indicates well over full when tank is full and is at the 1/8th or whatever the last big tick mark is on the gauge (1/4?) when it's empty. But it's way better than it used to be. I might take my needles off again and realign them deliberately a little lower than directed in the fsm to get them where i want them.

I also took my cluster apart due to a fuel gauge needle that had flipped backwards. I believe that the needles should be placed back on when the gauges are plugged in and key is in the ON position. Right now the speed and RPM needles are the same distance from the at rest position as I put the needles back on when sitting on the table. Will be taking them out and doing it over again. I will post a follow up.
