Door and trunk unlock buttons

Door and trunk unlock buttons
05 G35 Sedan with I-Keys
The car starts without having to put the key in and all of the functions on the remote work fine, but if I understand the system correctly, when I'm next to the car I should be able to push the button by the door handles and the car should unlock/lock. The buttons don't work. The button on the trunk and the trunk release to the left of the steering wheel don't work either. The lock, unlock and trunk open functions on the remotes works fine, so the basic system seems to be functioning. Is there a fuse or some common component that might have failed?
Thanks.

UPDATE:
I looked into the issue a little further and found that the passenger side request button actually works and the trunk request button and interior release button started working after toggling the valet switch in the glove box.
So, it looks like the problem is narrowed down to just the driver's side request button. Searching around, I've come across a few posts that say that the problem in this case is internal to the door handle. That looks like a real pain.
Has anyone come across any other fixes?

I would suggest inspecting the wires that pass through the rubber boot from your door frame into the driver's side door. Check there for frayed or broken wires before you go digging behind the door panel. The request button certainly could have failed. There is also an antenna behind the door handle which communicates with your iKey when you press that button, so there are a few things involved. But the signals all need to pass through that rubber boot so that's where I'd look first.
