Good question... if you find out, let me know.

$300+ each. Im not kidding.

Yes fullsize spare tires have the sensor, but they are not initialized. Good eye though noticing the metal valve stem vs. the regualr rubber ones. Basically because at the factory when they mount the wheels and tires they do severall thousand sets at a time and all wheels get pressure sensors, its not decided which wheel will be the spare until they are installed and they throw one in the trunk. The TPMS Tuner only transmits with sensors that are initialized, which the spare is not as it will only allow initialization of 4 sensors. The sensors need to be in motion for them to work, usually 25+ mph for a block or so will do it if youve got the tires at 36-38 psi.

The sensors and tuner send a very very strong signal, its not uncommon for one car to pick up on anothers flat tire. This is a problem solved in the new M series because there is a TPMS Tuner in each fender for each wheel so it can operate on a weaker signal with no possibility of interfearence.

Damn, I rather spend 3 bills on a mod then a new tire sensor.

HOLY CRAP! I wouldn't be surprised that stealing rims just to get the pressure monitors isn't far off.

I guess my monitors were being a PITA when I thought that my spare tire was causing it. I will now wear my *** for a hat

Yeah...its pricey. Its pretty common to break them when mounting/demounting tires, you can glue them back together, but when we break a customers sensor on accident we just replace them so we have a bunch of cracked and broken ones. Check your local dealer if they have any broken ones laying around.

ok so now that this thread has kinda gone off topic (not that I mind) but after some research I believe I came up with a viable explanation as to why my tire pressure sensors came on.

In my trip to Lost Wages (Las Vegas for those who don't know) the elevation we ended up at was way above sea level compared to our origination of Orange County. So from what I found out from my buddy who own's a BMW 750iL is that he's seen it happen to him when he changes elevation. Touchy sensors.

Just thought I would share that with you guys. Hope that helps some of you!
