New guy

Hey everyone,

I just found this place today, but I've had my G35 Sedan since last November. I got a Silver 2004 model with every available option. The only thing it doesn't have is the Navigation system... I didn't want it.

I only have 5500 miles on her so far and i've done nothing to her, but I am seriously considering some modifications. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I was considering a cat back exhaust system, the K&N filter and possibly an MSD or other ignition system.

I get 20 mpg on the freeway (with a very heavy foot) is that about par for the course for the 5spd Steptronic A/T?

I know this thing is governed, but it is governed somewhere beyond 130 mph (um... so i'm told) anyone have any idea what speed? The dealer ain't talkin'.

I get about 19 mpg in my 6MT 2003.5 sedan.

As far as a catback exhausts, They will increase the noise level in your car, so if you prefer to keep it quite then I would just keep the stock exhaust... Only mods I would suggest is a Suspension Kit and some 19" rims... And the Nismo Aero kit if you don't have it already... Keep it simple and clean

If noise is not a issue, the Stillen Catback gives the most HP gains.... I have it on mine and love it, then throw on a Stillen Big Air Intake and a 350z Tube... but as I mentioned your car will be louder and you will get some droning at cruising speeds.. So if your not sure i'd just keep it stock

it's limited at 165.. if the speedo is that accurate. Technosquare reflash will remove that and raise your rev limit too.

So what mods are the best... what do you want out of your car?

You wanna pimp down the boulevard?
Drag race?
AutoX?
Spank some coupes around town?
Compete at car shows?
GO VERY FAST?
Make the fast car stop quickly?
Sound loud, without the speed?

There are tons of links throughout this site that will tell you what you need to know, but you gotta know what you are trying to accomplish first.

Read up, and then post up to ask new questions, or clarify for your application.

Welcome aboard!!

Cheers, Ted

For the cat-back system look into the Borla system as well. Great sound, not too loud, very throaty.

As far as top speed. Some people have posted going as fast as 147 MPH. I've not heard of anyone going faster then that in the sedan. That doesn't mean that's the top speed though.

You'll need to search the various sections of the forums and research for yourself what you're thinking about doing.

Thanks for the welcome fellas.

I don't really want to modify the look and I already have the sport package so the suspension is good enough for me... I guess what i'd really like is maybe a little more 'oomph' and, if possible, get that extra HP without compromising fuel economy too much.

I'm mechanically inclined, I was a propulsion plant engineer for my first 8 years in the Navy, but I damn sure ain't a mechanic.

when the g35 started coming out, it seemed like nearly everyone's first mod was the z tube & jwt popcharger combo. congrats on your car and good luck!

Welcome aboard Macs, and congrats on the ride. Enjoy.
The OEM ingnition should be more than enough for you.
A heavy footed 20 mpg's is good.
