Weird Smell

I am a new owner of a 05 auto g35 sedan and after driving and turning off the engine I smell a strong smell coming from the engine. Is this normal? If so, how long does it stay? When my bros got their Acura TL and Honda Accord, the engine didn't smell like this. Please help, never had Infinite before.

Yeah ......it does stink, and will for a while (couple a hundred miles) It's just the protective film burning off. Don't worry.

Mine does the same thing. I had to leave it out of the garage when I first took it home because it smelled so much. With 325 miles on the clock, the smell is getting better. Still there, but just a faint smell. I guess since the car is built in Japan they coat the parts for the boat ride over? Whatever the case, it will go away.

Could also be your cats breaking in. As with other smells, it goes away after several hundred miles.

The protective stuff used to be Cosmoline (is it still?) and it burns off after a while. Mine is barely detectable at 4K. I don't know why it is different from brand to brand. Different stuff? Different amounts? Different places? All of the above?

I had the same thing. It's an anti-corrosion spray in the engine. It did not go away until about 1000 miles. Or maybe you just need to wash your butt!
