150k mi 2004 G35X $2350? Good buy???
Overall, I think these older G's are great cars. Are they as cheap to maintain and own as a fwd compact? Absolutely not, but what is? My current G is an 04.5 with 161k, and I had an 05 with 254k when I sold it after putting 8k miles on it in a year.
If the power train is well maintained, then the main concern is the suspension and interior. The suspension is not cheap to maintain, but when it works, these cars handle like a dream. Any used car you buy will have quirks and issues, both my G's have and had them, but nothing that would stop me from buying another one in a heartbeat. These cars are durable, and when treated well can last 300k miles. I had a 99 Accord with 215k on it (65k was put on it by me), and man I liked the car, but they are just boring at the end of the day. No matter what you do to it, a corolla, or civic, it will not handle or be as fast a stock G35.
My opinion is you have the car inspected by a reputable shop/mechanic. If they give you a green light, then I personally would go for it. At least here on the west coast, G35's with less then 150k miles are getting few and far between. G35X's are extremely rare out here on top of that.

Dear all. The dealer with the 83k mile car is down to $3500. He says it's got a muffler leak. I have questions 1) why hasn't he fixed it and is this shady? i.e. say it's one problem when it's really another 2) will this be a problem come emissions time? 3) will this impact performance and longevity of the car's systems? Happy New Year's!!!!
They're right about service being higher and also parts being higher. For one because it's a luxury brand and two because it's awd. If you were to compare a part for a Nissan 350z which most times will match the part number of the Infiniti part (meaning it's the same part and they're swappable between both cars) to the same part but for your infiniti, it will always be higher than the nissan. Same interchangable part but a higher price because it's a luxury brand. I get around this by shopping online and comparing part numbers, forums for fitment to make sure, or even asking them to bring both parts out so I could compare them. Then I end up buying the cheaper Nissan part. I also look online. Many times online parts are cheaper than any auto parts store. I have some ebay parts on mine and they haven't given me any problems. Just savings. I do most of the work on mine but I do notice simple things like tire mounting and balancing are higher because of the import luxury name. I know the higher pricing is because of the car. I also have another car and service always comes out cheaper. This is why I do things myself. My muffler delete and rewelding my broken vhr ypipe was about $160 and I was told the price was on the low end because I promised to go back. I'll might go when it gets warmer so they install headers (I'm getting quoted at $350) I could do it but I know it's not worth the pain or bloody knuckles. I might as well pay. Do the work yourself or expect to pay more. Regardless it's still cheaper than German brands. I had an Bmw X5 4.4l so I know how expensive parts and service are
Anywhere between 2.5k to 3.8k is a good price. An exhuast leak isn't a problem. If it's near the muffler you can do a muffler delete like mine and get a nice sound from it. But it depends where it's leaking from. If it's near the exhaust manifold that will be more expensive. But you can always get headers which translates to more power and a deeper sound. Exhaust leaks are mostly a simple cheap fix but if the gases get into the cabin you don't want to drive around like that with your windows closed. An exhuast leak would mean an opportunity for a nice catback exhaust or a custom exhaust. Exhaust leaks do slightly affect performance but most catback and custom exhausts systems offset that by giving you more than what you had from factory. Also keep in mind they're louder. I know not everyone wants a louder sounding sport exhaust but you have many options.
