2004 G35X, What should I pay?

Hey guys, looks like the time is very near, like maybe next week, I will be getting into a G35X. I've seen one on the internet that I really like:

2004 G35X
Diamond Graphite, Black Leather, Bose, NO Navi
35,5xx miles
Factory installed Nismo Kit
Dealer is asking $25,995

I don't intend on paying that, but I would like some advice as to what to expect and what my bottom line should be when I go there. Edmunds used car pricing says $21,500 trade in for the region, NYC, and $25,000 for dealer. I've never bought a car at a dealer, so any advice is more than welcome.

Thanks in advance guys.

Just for comparison, a month ago I paid $18,900 for a 2004 2wd 6MT with 43K miles, so I'd think a G35X shouldn't be more than a $2,000 premium over mine...

That price does seem very high. This may not be exactly what you are looking for, but you can use this as a reference. They are also in your neck of the woods.

I agree with medgar's method. I'd use other known price listings or recent purchases as a reference for coming to an acceptable price. I doubt they really gave anyone $21,500 for the car at trade-in time. If they want to show you what they paid for it, just brush that aside too and say you don't care what they paid for it--It's usually an inflated number anyway. I don't put too much stock in KBB and Edmunds.com's pricing anymore--they're usually on the high side. I just paid about $4K-5K less for my car at a dealer than either Edmunds or KBB had listed. A few years ago, I traded in a car for $2K less than Edmunds says I should've gotten--and I argued with 2 dealerships before I finally just let it go. Also a few years ago, I bought my wife an RX300 for about $3K less than Edmunds and KBB said it should be, and an Accord for about $2K less...I'd say $20,000-21,000 is what you should be paying for it.

Thanks guys!!! That's what I was aiming at, $20,000 - $21,000, including tax, title and registration right? Out the door no more than $21,000?

I normally just bargain on the selling price, so no, you'd add extra for tax/title/lic, and that really depends on tax rate, etc in your area. For me, $18,900 was selling price, but out-the-door was closer to $20K. But hey--give that line to the dealer that you'll only pay $21K out the door, and see what they say. You can always deal up from there.

A word of advice too--if you've never dealt with a dealer before, I highly recommend bringing along someone who has. They love to eat up newbies and throw all kinds of numbers at you. Also, it'd be best to already have your financing in order so you don't get ripped off by the dealer finance guy who tells you, "Based on your credit, I can ONLY give you a 12% rate..."even though your credit history may be excellent. And remember--the average dealer's not your friend, no matter how friendly they might get. They want to sell high--you want to buy low; and there are tons of other G35x's out there if this one doesn't work out...Don't fall in love with the car so much that you can't walk away from the deal...ok, I've blabbered too long. have fun!!!

That sounds like you got a really good deal. LOL--that's what KBB says I should've expected to pay for my 2004...

Thanks KV and Super Dave. Great advice guys and Dave, great deal. I would get into a brand new 06, but I love the way the 04 looks with the factory Nismo kit.
