Is it worth swapping to black Interior?

So I got the ugly tan interior in sedan and I’m debating wether to switch to black interior. My driver seat has the typical rip and my steering wheel leather is slowly peeling.I found a guy online parting out his whole entire interior including the steering wheel, seats, back seats, arm rest, center console with seat heaters and carpet for $600.The problem with this is that I won’t be doing the install myself since I’m busy with work and my only choice is to bring this project to my buddy who works out of his garage. He quoted me about $500 for labor all together except the install the steering wheel which I’m planning to throw a cover on it anyways. He is also willing to do a payment plan of $250 a week.Is it really worth switching to black interior in your opinion? Or should I just switch out my driver seat and just live with the tan interior?

That's wierd, the steering wheel is actually the easiest part of the swap

Worth it. I hate that beige interior. Plus you get to take apart the car which is fun, for me anyways.

The only way I would tackle it is if I came across a wrecked vehicle with a clean interior for around $600-800.

There's a LOT of pieces to change out and it's a pretty significant amount of work, I'd guess probably 20-25 hours if you were changing everything. Definitely not a project you want to half-*** because those remaining beige piece will REALLY stick out then.

Have a serious talk with your buddy about that price. $500 for a COMPLETE swap seems severely underpriced for the amount of labor it's going to take.

Not to mention all the things that could go wrong. IMO not worth it, have the wheat interior on my IP coupe and I wouldn't change it for anything although I do think that is the best combo for that color

yea that’s what I was thinking, something could possibly break and could possibly be leading me to trips to the junkyard. My other Route was to just get the driver seat in tan from my junkyard as that’s the only seat that’s ripped and throw that on and call it a day.I Also have a tan steering wheel cover that matches perfectly with the interior color or I could go to an aftermarket steering wheel in the future if I want.

Aftermarket steering wheels seem so stupid to me. No airbag or SWC is a big big sacrifice that you would have to make for that custom look. Really defeats the purpose of a DD for me. The seat tear seems sadly inevitable on these cars although my car doesn't have one yet! I did buy the car last year at 52k miles though and Im very careful getting in and out of seat (I try to sit down "gently" instead of just dropping into seat). My last G I totaled had that tear as well when I bought it. It helps being 135lbs though lol

There is a TSB for the seat tear issue. You can download it at infinitihelp.com. It involves filing down a plastic piece in the seat frame that is what causes the tear. I too found a low-mileage coupe that did not have the tear. Had the dealer do the TSB, and knock on wood the seat is still showing no signs of the tear.

Good looking out! I'm going to look further into preventing this tragedy from occurring on my beautiful seats. Thanks for sharing

It’s an 03 g35 coupe 6speed manual, just basic things done. Low and loud that’s about it for now.
If you have basic knowledge on how to take things apart you could do it yourself. I’m doing a full interior swap from tan to red seats with black everything else. I’d recommend taking a day off and doing it yourself and saving the $500 it’s not too difficult just time consuming, took me about 3-4 hours to gut my full g35 coupe.

I don’t have time like that that’s the problem haha I work 2nd/3rd shift and barely have time in the mornings 😌 I decided I’m just going to replace the seat and buy a leather rejuvenator and conditioner and just live with it.I rather fix bigger issues like my AC before this
