Just curious as to why people think the 03s are the slowest of the bunch?

Just curious as to why people think the 03s are the slowest of the bunch?

I'm constantly reading about the 03s being the slower of the Gs because of a supposed ECU change. I hate to magazine race, but according to Motor Trend, two 03 G35 sedan autos loaded with premium/sport/aero packages they tested did the following:

July 04 - One Year Test of the 03 G35 Sedan
1/4 mile 14.68@95.7mph

03 Car of the Year Issue
1/4 mile 14.70@97.1mph

In May 04 they tested an 04 and got a 1/4 14.68@94.0mph

It sure seems to me that these cars are closely matched and that the early 03s may have an advantage seeing that the topend of the 03s is nearly 2-3mph stronger. From the 1/4 mile times I've seen on this site, it appears the 03s are as quick, if not fractionally quicker than the 04s.

It's just people trying to make themselves feel better by saying there year car is faster then the previous year even tho they are identical... I'd ignore em...

Only thing I belive they changed was on the automatics between the 03 and 04 something to do with the programming, but im sure it was only for downshifting... but who knows.. and since I have a 6MT, I could care less

Bottom line is driving a car is all about the overall experience, not who can get to the next stop light the fastest... and thow in the fact that they will take your car away if you caught street racing, I don't see what all the 0-60 fuss is about... Now if you spend all your spare time at the track racing then thats a different story, but im sure only like 20% of the poeple on this board have actualy taken there car to the track.

The 04 trunk is sleeker, it is smooth and doesn't have the doggy door. Thus there's less wind resistance and that makes the car faster. DUH!!!!

Yeah the air runs off the trunk lid and immediately swoops down where it gets stuck in that doggy door causing a level of turbulence significant enough to slow the car down at speed.

The 04 has the air just flow nicely off the trunk lid to the bumper, no turbulence formed.

True. But you make up for it with all those dead hookers. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. That was rude. I meant to say "deceased prostitutes". I believe that is the more PC term...

They're only dead because they couldn't fit through the doggy door.

Brian V--The 04 trunk you speak of is actually a mid 2003 or 2003.5 trunk that carried over to the 2004 model. So you actually have a 2003.5 trunk. But I agree, I am a bit quicker b/c I have the non-doggie door trunk. I know--splitting hairs here.
