G35X 10,000 miles
G35X 10,000 miles
All,
I am looking to sell my Mazdaspeed6 and buy something that fits my life a bit better, but would still be a sporty drive. I have found an absurdly low mile G35x and wanted to get thoughts form the forum masters.
1. Should I be concerned with a G with this few miles?
2. This G35x has the wood trim...which I dislike, but it seems a lot of the later model G35s have wood trim. It also may be the lower mileage ones were driven less due to being older owner cars, and we all know older owners like wood! Curious on people's thoughts on the wood trim if any. Seems based on older forum posts most dislike it.
3. I see where the 2nd gen G35X is taller than the 2nd gen G35 RWD due to the AWD suspension. I know the first gen suspensions are different but is the 1st gen G35X any taller? I haven't found anything in the forums that confirms either way making me lean toward same ride height, but wanted to confirm.
4. The exhaust is slightly different on the G35X due to the center diff. Does it sound any different than the RWD?
I may hold out on purchasing a RWD, but color options I want in great shape/low mileage are surprisingly limited.

Anytime something seems too good to be true it usually is.
I'd be very suspicious of any vehicle with such low mileage.
Was this vehicle ever involved in a flood with a possible washed title.?
Spend the diagnostic fee at an Infiniti dealer and have them run the VIN number and give you a service history as well as where the vehicle was originally purchased.
Was this vehicle ever involved in a serious accident.
Good luck
@telcoman Its a one-owner (old owner apparently). It's on cargurus/autotrader/ebay. Not sure if I can link it here, so I won't. Asking $12K for 10K miles. black on black. Looks really nice but I wouldn't pay $12K for it. More curious if I could negotiate and get an inspection if it would be worth $9K - $10K.
Or whether it would just be better to wait anyways on an aluminum interior trim, RWD, etc. If ride height and exhaust is the same I was really thinking about going for it.
I consider anyone who responds to car questions on car forums more or less masters of their respective cars. No one touches the mastery of the miata guys though.

10k on the odometer is absurdly low, almost alarming. Lowest I've seen was a while back a member found a red G35X with about 40k miles, and he had it inspected with the service history provided.
Can you try and add a link to the car for sale?

I was shopping for a G a few months ago before I got my 03. If I had the budget for a 9-12k car this time around it would not be a first gen G35X.
I'd aim for an 07-08 G35 OR an 09-12 G37 sedan.
I discovered low mile examples are around and somewhat rare but not impossible in that price range especially 07-08s.

Car is linked above. I realize I could get a more current g35/G37 or other objectively better cars but I really like the first gens hence the search for the 05-06s.
What about the ride height and exhaust on the G35X vs G35 RWD? Is there much different if any on the first gens?

That car is out here in the Chicagoland area.
Are you from Illinois?
If not, Burr Ridge is a pretty ritzy suburb of Chicago with a lot of old money .Not surprised an elderly person had it and probably drove to get medications.
This car probably has never been taken out of town either. A PPI inspection even at a local Nissan dealer will put your mind at ease for sure.
As for height, yes the Xs sit a little taller than the standard RWD sedans ( like . 5"). If you plan to lower the car a lot you probably are better off with a standard RWD model. Less headache and AWD components to worry about.
As for sound, the Xs come with the coveted HR Y pipe which makes the exhaust flow and sound better vs RWD models. Consider it a free 150.00 mod

I’m actually in AL, just trying to find a good condition one as I’d like to daily it and hang onto it for a long time.
Yes, the first gens have a certain simplicity and elegance to them that I think is lost on later ones (goes for most cars nowadays). I also was looking at IS300s and Acura TL-S from around the same time period. The TL and G35 are just a lot more car than the IS300 and the TL-S are still shockingly expensive.
is there anything you can direct me to that talks about the suspension differences and height difference on the 1st gens? I found info on the 2nd gen, but can’t find anything that confirms the .5 ride height increase on the 1st gens.

I’m not looking to lower it, I just like the RWD ride heights and .5 is a decent amount, just trying to set my expectation and I couldn’t find anything on it.
Only thing I would really want to do is add the 18” sport wheels at some point.

Out of your selection, the 05-06X will be the best choice.
As for suspension, OEM coupe revised sport shocks and springs will get you exactly what you need

Check out this thread!
plenty of good examples and pics of lowered X sedans.

Is there any literature on the ride height difference on the 1st gen G35X / and G35?
I do see in the wheel/suspension forum that adding standard sedan springs give about a .5 drop...but is that just on the front, I thought the suspensions were the exact same on the back of the car?

Both drop the same distance but the rear sits a little higher vs the front .
To offset this, some folks put 350z springs front and G coupe sport springs rear so the drop is even.
Heres a thread with picsfor reference.

I have owned a 04' X and a 05' X and 2x V36 08' X cars. I sold the 2x V35's only because the V36 cars are a much better car. Better engine, better transmission, etc, etc... Drive a V35 and a V36 before buying. Best would be a V36 drivetrain in a V35 but that is just too much work. Also $12k for a G with 10k miles isn't a bad deal at all. Was about a $32k car off the lot.
