So hi everyone, hope to get to know y'all now that I've been using this resource to help buy my car. I got a 2004 g35 sedan and I love it so far. It's got some minor cosmetic issues here and there, but runs amazing. I know it needs cats(probably o2 sensors) and maybe a crank sensor. I've got my cats on order and wanting to wait to get the sensors until that's done, figure the codes I'm getting might be false positive due to the o2 sensors being disconnected.
I think it has the premium package, no aero. It's got leather interior, heated seats( maybe, at least the buttons) and I hid/xenon headlights. Things I don't have: nav and reclining rear seats. It's also got what looks like a satellite antenna on the roof, but I don't think it has satellite radio.
Some of the cosmetic issues: torn seats, broken trim( dash box cover, ashtray cover, cup holder spring), passenger power seat control is shot, minor dents, yellowed headlights, and the sunroof doesn't go back. Also missing the lens covers for the map/some lights
I was planning on getting some aftermarket headlights, but the options were limited before I found out it was hid/xenon and now they are non existent so I guess I'll diy( unless y'all have some suggestions).
Now for some questions. The biggest thing so far is, is there a website I can order interior parts for this thing? I'm pretty sure I'll need to find some pull a part locally for the seats, but ya. Also how hard would it be to install the reclining rear seats?
I'm busy today, so I will add some more pics tomorrow.
Typically I order used OEM parts from eBay unless someone is parting out a vehicle on the G35DRIVER forum.
Clean up your existing headlights, use a drill and the 3M headlight restoration kit, be sure to use painters masking tape to tape off the fender, bumper area around the headlights. When they're fully polished back to new wash/dry them well, tape off the rest of the area with paper/tape and spray them with 2k clear coat like this one.
Ya I was hoping to avoid ebay if possible, but I guess it is what it is.
I picked up the stuff to buff the headlights on my way to work today. Hopefully I'm not too dead to do it when I get home. Planning on pulling them apart to paint the inside at a later date, so I might just do a temp clean now and do the final clear and all once I pull them off the car
I've had really good luck with eBay over the years buying used OEM equipment. You can always try to find the components in your local pick-n-pull scrap yards, unfortunately for me there aren't very many G's in my local ones.

A lot here but most are really ragged and not worth salvaging anything off of.
I know I promised pics but it's been a long week. Car got stranded at my friends house because it's stalling when put in drive. I'm planning on swapping out the crankshaft sensor this weekend(oem) and checking the differential oil.
Anyways, I wanted to ask if anyone knows if the 2005+ g35 dome/map light console would fit in my car? From the pictures I have seen on eBay they look about the same shape and size. Only difference I see is the shape of the lenses and it looks like the new one has a built in mic or something. I guess the biggest question is will the plug work? Also do I even want to swap it out haha.
Ohh sorry didn't realize you were talking about the whole thing. Yes the newer ones have provisions for the mic/handsfree bluetooth phone to the stereo. I assume if you swapped the entire roof console it would fit but I've never compared them.
Ok kind forum goers..... I want to make sure I'm on the right track with this. For two weeks now my car has been stalling in drive. We towed it home and found the rear brakes locked up. I changed the calipers out and they work great now, but it's still stalling. I also replaced the crankshaft sensor with an OEM one. We can get it to stay running if we keep the rpms over 3k.
I'm assuming it's in limp mode but I'm not sure. It shows that it's in 4th gear, only has codes for o2 sensors being disconnected ( p0300 and p1111) I checked the relay under the glove box and have reset the ECU. Tonight I plan on checking the differential oil, changing the transmission filter and fluid, and checking the maf sensor.
I should also add. This car has questionable maintenance history at best and the atf is definitely beyond it's life. I topped it off hoping that would make it drive able but nothing.
P0300 is a random misfire code, pull and inspect the plugs and coil packs.
I haven't made it this far yet, since it seems to be more electrical or with the transmission. Engine seems to be running perfectly fine. I'm assuming the misfire is due to poor air/fuel due to the o2 sensor being disconnected.
Ok I have a little more time for a response today, P1111 is not a valid code for the G35 your scanner probably doesn't have the required ISO protocol 9141-2 needed to talk to the car. There are a lot of different languages for OBD2 (protocols) and if the scanner doesn't speak the correct language it will just guess which code it's reading.
The car starts and idles fine?
Exactly which O2 sensor is disconnected? If it's the upstream sensors in the header then the engine WILL be in limp mode, since you said it will rev past 3k I'm guessing it's just a downstream sensor in the catalytic converter. The vehicle will still run without the downstream sensors plugged in.
An ECM reset just resets the long term fuel trim, I suggest you do an idle air recalibration, throttle closed position recalibration, you can do the "pedal dance method" for these by following the instructions in the FSM section EC - Engine Controls under "basic service procedures". Here is a link to the FSM.
You say the "engine seems to be running perfectly fine" yet the engine is stalling and you're throwing a random misfire code, that's the ECM's way of telling you that it's not running fine and giving you a place to look first. Pull and inspect the plugs is the first step, you might end up finding another problem along the way (well tube full of oil, burned out coil pack, bad wiring, etc).
As for the transmission gear selector, I would tackle this issue after you get the engine stuff squared away but while you're down repairing the O2 sensor you should inspect the TCM harness for any damage.
Need more info about exactly what year/chassis vehicle you have.
EDIT: Ohh and make sure your battery cables are tight, that's an EXTREMELY common cause of random stalling and random electrical gremlins.
It has a smooth and steady idle in park, neutral, and reverse. Revs smooth and steady to red line in park, neutral, and reverse. No oil consumption, no smoke, no engine noises at all. Only stalls under load when put into drive. I'm figuring it's either the torque converter or TCM, but figure I'll do other tests first and ask here for other possible causes. It even drives perfectly fine in reverse, even better now that the brakes aren't locked up.
I pulled the o2 sensors at the cats and drilled holes in the cats to drive it home after buying it because the passenger cat is clogged, hfc should be shipping next week hopefully.
It's a 2004 automatic sedan, stock. Cam sensors and maf might be failing and will be replaced once I get paid, they are probably non OEM since that was the issue with the crank sensor.
