Intelligent key with valets experience

Hello there,

Last couple of times I would just give my car's key from the key fob to the valet. However, I was wondering what people's experiences were giving the key fob to the valet, and holding on to the key in the fob. Do valets generally know how the Intelligent Key works? I've always been afraid I'd have to spend 10 minutes explaining the Intelligent Key to the valet, so i just give them the key and keep the fob myself.

Thanks.

Manish

I always give the valet key (the flat spare that won't allow access to the glove box) and keep my key and fob together in my pocket.

Valuables go in the trunk, trunk lockout switch gets a bump in the glovebox, then the glovebox gets locked with my key.

Works okay for me. I don't give up the fob or fob key - they dont need it.

Is that the Wallet key you're talking about? I thought that doesn't work with the ignition.

On the contrary, most Valet keys only work in the ignition. I, of course, prevent this problem entirely by never using a valet to park my car.

So it is not required that one of the remotes be within a certain range of the car to start? I thought that was part of the security. I am picking up my '05 X later this week so I don't know jack obviously... I usually don't valet because I hate the way most valets drive once you're gone. And that old episode of Seinfeld still scares me.

Since I hate bringing extra items with me (valet keys) . . I just give my valet the hidden key inside of the Keyfob, and I take the remote with me. That eliminates me having to explain how it works, and gives me peice of mind.

The first time I used valet with our FX, the valet acted as if he knew what was going on... but then couldn't start the car, and forgot to give me back the fob when he returned the car. From my experience, valets aren't exactly the top of the intellectual heap. Try not to confuse them too much.

I tend to avoid valet parking myself. To answer a question above, you should have gotten four keys:

2 x intellikey + fob
1 x wallet key that opens the door in case you lock your keys in the car
1 x valet key that is only good for ignition

I understand your guys reasons for giving or not giving the key fob or the key within the fob to the valet, or not even valeting the car at all. My wife had a concern that I thought was valid. She was concerned that if they don't have the fob, how can they arm the alarm once they park the car? Does locking the car arm the alarm? Also, from my experience working at a hotel for a couple of years the Valet did lock the cars with the alarm fob when parking it.

I also don't trust valet people driving my cars especially after Ferris Bueller's day off. However, after watching videos like this crazy fool! you can't be sure about what's going to happen to your car ANYWHERE!

I dont really worry about the locking/alarm system. I just use Valet's in NYC/Parking who just leave the cars unlocked the whole time in the garage anyway.

Elsewhere I can see that would be a problem with no keyfob
