My middy is banging like hell after 3 attempts to push the shield out of the way. It's coming off as soon as I can get under there again.

I installed mine last week. I dont recommend taking the heat shield off b/c the drive shaft is just above the midpipe. The midpipe gets really hot, so instead of taking it off, you should stop hammer it a bit and it will fit fine. If you are planning to do it yourself make sure you WD-40 the hell out of the nuts. The two connecting to the y-pipe are the hardest. A breaking bar should do the trick. install time is about 45 mins. I personally think this is one of the best cheap mod for the sedan , granted if you can get your hand on a used one.

Renesis,

Phone number for Grubb's is Toll free, 1-866-789-0207 and either ask for Mark Budenhegen (Parts Manager) or Tim (don't know last name).

I just took my Dremmel tool with the cutting wheel under the car and notched out about a two by four inch section on the shield. The shield has the thickness of tin foil and can be pushed outta the way if ya don't feel like getting as **** as me .LOL...JBX

Think there are any gains from this mod other than the weight loss and nicer sound? Anyone have dynos? Just not sure how restrictive the sedan midpipe is underneath all that "stuff"

thank you very much ricmalaz.. just called grubbs and ordered one. they said the coupe midpipe was taken off from 05 coupe, so i assume that is in great condition.. anyway, they said that they only have 1-2 left.. so if anyone interested too, order it quickly!!
the next challenge is the installation...

So does the heatshield touches the driveshaft?? How should I mod it to solve the problem?

It seems there is enough variation that some sedans may need slight bending of the heat shield around the midpipe and some do not. The heat shield is made from a fairly light gage sheet metal and can easily be bent with simple hand tools - I used a large flat screwdriver carefully prying against the midpipe muffler to push the shield a little further away. From what I recall, there was plenty of clearance between the heat shield and the drive shaft. I have not had any problems since the install.

Other than that, my install was very straightforward, only requiring a 14mm socket wrench with a long handled ratchet driver (actually my long handled 1/2 torque ratchet), floor jack, and jack stands. It would have probably been kinda tough to loosen the nuts with a just a standard length 3/8 ratchet driver.

I got my custom mid pipe installed today. Basically it is a Coupe midpipe without the resonator. Its a straight through design. Rob at Z car garage fabricates these. While i wanted to install the regular mid pipe he suggested i try this one and if it was too loud he would swap it out....

Here are my impressions:
Sound: It is a big difference between the stock exhaust and now with this mid pipe. I am not happy with the sound. when i tried to mimic my wife's driving style ( keeping the RMPS around 2000rpm-2200rpms from 0-45mph) it was very loud and droned out the cabin. With my driving style pushing it hard, the sound was aggressive and nice. Freeway cruising did not have much drone, but you could definately tell that it is no longer stock.

Power: I did notice a slight increase in responsiveness. While it was nothing drastic, if i had to guess i would say i picked up a few horses.

Overall: I'm going back on Monday to have the standard coupe mid pipe installed. I hope its significantly quieter with the standard mid-pipe. Otherwise i will be returning to stock.

Well this thread inspired me...I bought a midpipe from a member here in Houston today. I then proceded home and installed it.

There is a total difference in sound, at least from the inside. There is a low rumble and a gurgle at lower rpm/mph. On WOT you can definitely tell it's flowing more air. It has a meaner growl and sounds like what it should from the factory.

The resonator was barely touching the heat sheid. So I just grabbed a pry bar and moved it about a half inch up.

I'm going to get the wifey to drive the car tomorrow so I can grab some clips of it idling and driving away. Hopefully I can get those up tomorrow.

Best mod so far for the price and ease of install.
