03.5 6 Spd Sedan Owner with Feedback on 05 6 Spd Sedans
LOL. gee u 05 owners dont need to get so defensive. you paid good money for a damn good car.
BUT that said, the 03.5 6mt sedans were actually closer to 277 hp...dyno proven a few years back. Those thread are probably lost now, but most of the old timers will probably remember them.
ALSO, when they begin to mod the 05's with power mods, they will probably address the torque issues and it will become a whole other game. should be interesting to see.
i am very jealous of that LSD you guys got though. =/

I'm not calling out 05 6spd Sedan Owners at all....On the Contrary
I'm probably going to lease another one, once I see the new Aero Packages offered and I can have some sort of confirmation/validation that the engines are what they say they are.
This is a good thread and everybody has offered some excellent input. I don't think those Dyno numbers offer any significant conclusions.
I'd like to see the 03.5's dynoed up against the O5's.(6spd Sedans of course)
The weight differential with the tires and car is a good point but IMO, it wouldn't make that much of a difference.
Again I'm mostly going by what dealer impressions are. They all tell me that the 05's have been relatively "de-tuned" with regard to low end torque. And this is with regard to the Coupe and Sedan 6 speeds.
BTW...Does anybody have any pics of the new Aero Kits on an 05 6Spd Sedan? They are hard to find.

I am going to have to dig these up (they will be featured in the next month's Sport Z magazine), but from memory, Tom (ShiftyG's) 2003 Manual with a few mods did worse in terms of HP/Tq than the brand new 05 mt that EverythingG35 brought ou.

I thought LSD was available on the earlier models too. No?
Great to see the 05 putting down 251 rwp, that's only 16% drivetrain loss which is better than average from what I've seen from the other FM platform rwds. I'll definitely take it - but there goes my theory about drivetrain loss being the reason for the terrible gas mileage? Haha
I find this thread very amusing. Infiniti raises the bar on the G35 6 spd for 05 by 38 hp and we got people complaining that the 05 car is slower. The ONLY explanation I could buy would be the final drive ratio was lowered in 05 so the 05 feels slower at lower speeds. Anybody know what the final drive numbers are for the 05 vs the 04/03?
Uhh...No. They surely didn't raise the HP by 38 ponies
As has been mentioned in this thread and many times before, the HP on the 2003-2003.5 6spd sedans was not 260. It was probably the exact as the coupes and in my opinion more torque than the stated 260.
Thanks for the Dyno's. Hopefully when I go test drive another one in about a week, I'll form a different opinion. Maybe I got a Demo that was messed up? Doubtful due to the input I keep receiving from dealers as well.
The Dyno's are somewhat validating Infiniti's numbers. Not completely, but they are more in line with what they are stating.

To tell you the truth, I am quite satisfied with all 235 horses my car dyno'd with, and I have an autotragic....so, not quite sure what the fuss is about, but from the dyno day we had here in Phx, all the coupes and sedans showed what Infiniti claims...
The best comment here was the 95-99 Maxima vs the 00-01 Maxima.
Same basic engine, different chip and intake manifold (190 HP vs 222 HP).
In a race they were dead even and the 190 HP 4th gens FELT faster, but in all regards they were the same speed in the 1/4 mile (and the 2000 and 2001 were slightly heavier). There's TONS of conclusive proof via Maxima dynos on what happens here.
The torque numbers are very similar between the two, but the 4th gen peaks out at 4k rpm while the 5th gen is like 5000-5500. The 190 HP 4th gen basically puts out 10 more WHP throughout the entire band, but at 5000 RPM the 5th gen starts making more, and eventually makes a peak difference of like 20 WHP but only at the very top.
Thus, the real number that anyone should care about when comparing these is "TOTAL VALUE UNDER THE CURVE." Your G35 could make 400 HP if Infiniti wanted it too, but you'd have a real dramatic curve with no usable power.
Chances are the 2005 makes more under the curve than the 03 and 04, BUT it probably averages out to maybe an AVERAGE of 3-5 WHP gained, not the 38 peak HP. If this is all true, that's why people may THINK the 03-04 is faster because 0-5000 RPM it IS faster, but it's quite a bit less powerful after that.
When I first heard about the 05 coming out with 298 I considered trading mine in, but now I think otherwise (thinking back to the 4th vs 5th gen Maxima ordeal). That said, the 05 is still superior, it has nicer options (mp3/wma player, nicer guages, nicer front bumper, etc), but for me it's not worth paying $4g's to get out of my current obligation.
Everyone needs to chill out on the defensiveness here, the same thing happened with 4th and 5th gen Maximas and the debates never stopped.
What is interesting is when the Maxima went from the VQ30 to the VQ35 222 to 255 HP (33 HP gain) it was SERIOUSLY faster. Where as going from 190 to 222 (32 HP gain) was hardly noticable. The reason why the 255 HP engine FELT so much faster was because it was laying down 30-40 more HP in the mid-range, bringing it's TOTAL POWER UNDER THE CURVE up significantly.
One last word - Those of you who understand sound system amplifiers can compare this to PEAK POWER or PMPO -VS- RMS power. My RMS 1x75watt RMS AMP will blow away a 1x600watt PEAK/PMP amp.
