Help: Changing Snow Tires...

Hi, I'm a newbie here. I have an 04 G35, 6MT, Midnight Blue.

Question is: Now that the dreaded snow is gone, I need to change over my snow tires to my summer ones.

The dealer put the snow tires on in the fall and did not mark which of the summer tires were the rear ones, which were the front, etc.

Does it matter how I put them back on? Do they need to be re-balanced? Is there a best method to install them?

And yes, I could take it back to the dealer to reinstall, but that would mean $$$ and take all the fun out of it

Thanks for the advice guys...

Unless you can tell by how the summers are worn there's not much you can do.
(eg. fronts may have more toe wear)

Def need to balance.
Any decent tire shop can do this.
( stay away from high volume chains)

All this pain can be avoided with some inexpensive winter wheels.
& You may save $ in the long run if you swap the wheels your self

Thanks for the replay. Maybe I was unbclear. The summer tires are already on the stock rims that came with the car. I had snow tires on a cheapo set of winter rims. Does that mean they still need to be re-balanced? Thanks...

If they're summer tires then there's a good chance they're directional tires, in which case you'll easily be able to tell which ones were on which side - just look at the sidewalls to confirm the direction of rotation.

And if the wheels haven't been washed since they were taken off, a keen-eyed observer would probably be able to tell which ones were on the front because they would have a thicker layer of brake dust on them than the rears.

The above sleuthing might allow you to reconstruct the original location of all 4 tires.

the rear tires will likely be worn more than the front tires -- especially if you have a heavy foot...

Great advice guys...Sounds like if I look a little closer I should be able to put the puzzle together again. Wouldn't I want to rotate the tires once I figures which were which? And if so, what is the best "rotation" methods you guys know of.

Not really an answer, but aren't the stock front and rear tires different widths?

EDIT: Whoops, that would be on the coupe. Sorry.

You can only put your rears to the front and front to the rears on the same side. The tires are directional, so they have to stay on the same side.

Hope that helps.
