What are these chips that people speak of?
I've heard from many about (i think...ecu) chips in cars and that they give anywhere from 25-40 HP!!! Is this b.s. or what...? and how much are these chips, including installation?

Search is friend not foe.
I have found that chips don't do much for a normally aspirated cars. Cars like ours come from the factory in a pretty high state of tune.
Chips for turbocharged cars make a big difference. Among other things, they raise the amount of boost the car will recieve before opening the blow off valve.
Now if you start to mod your G with the available bolts ons you will definetly need some type of chip like the one from technosquare as your car will operate outside of the parameters the stock ECU can compensate for.

G-Pimp to clarify your thinking... there are no "chips" for the G's. We can only have our ECU's reflashed (reprogrammed).
You must send your ECU to Tadashi at Technosquare with a list of your mods. And yes, it is true that you *cannot* drive your car while you waiting for your ECU to come back.
There are others on the market coming out with "piggy-back" ECUs, but that's a whole other "search" effort.

thanks SnM, it's rare that a compliment is passed out on the forum these days, and for something so little as my above post.
The team'll be at Extreme Autofest at the Cashman Center in Vegas this weekend (3pm to 10p)... if anybody is around, stop on by and say howdy. We'll be with the ModelsnMotion.com booth.

I have found that many of the aftermarket "chips" are not all they are cracked up to be. On N/A applications they alter timing, fuel delivery and in some engines valve timing. The issue is that in warmer weather these changes make the engine knock and ping like crazy. For example I had a 1995 BMW M3 with a Conforti chip that added like 28hp, the problem was that when temperatures got above 85deg. the pre-ignition was so bad that the computer would start taking timing away from the engine-thus it made less power than stock. The only way to remedy the problem was to run 100% unleaded race gas at over $5 a gallon!!! I also owned an Audi A4 1.8 turbo with a GIAC chip which added almost 50hp. the problem I had was even using 100% race gas the car was not running properly when temperatures got above 90deg.
My opinion is that these "chips" eliminate a margin of safety the manufactures build into an engine management system to protect the engine from melting down.

G-Pimp, rather than just tell you "you should search" which doesn't always get you the answer you are looking for after wasting all the time hunting, I will follow up Ted's nice and informative answer.
The Technosquare ECU Reflash, albeit a non seatofthepants upgrade optimizes all of your other mods. Check out my tag line to see what mods I am talking about. The biggest differences are that the car is instantly faster, though you don't feel it as I said, when shifting in manumatic mode b/c your rev limiter is now higher and at the track this was good for a tenth or two in the 1/4 mi, and your top speed limiter is gone...160+ now is doable, and the car has no hesitations when hitting the throttle.
This mod shoud be done after your done modding the rest of the car b/c they tune it based on that data. Also, if you don't race your car at the track I would save your money b/c it won't be worth it. Lastly, you should do the mod I got from the my350z.com site and wire in a toggle switch that after depressing the brake while in D you 100% disable the VDC/TCS and now you will see some serious difference when romping on the go pedal.
PS...if you have a 6 Spd...throw out everything I just said and skip right to saving your money b/c it's not worth it at all.
