Bose Satellite radio option

Hello all,

I got the premium package with the Bose system. I know it has support for satellite because there's a button to switch to satellite radio. What i do not know is:

How do I activate satellite radio for the car, does the dealer do it, or can the vendor do it?

Thanks.

Manish

First be sure that you car actually has the satalite radio unit in it. I believe some cars are wired for it but do not actually have the unit. Second if you have it find out if you have XM or Sirrus , they are different companies and activate differently. If you don't have the unit I think its like 400 bucks or so from the dealer. If its XM turn to channel 1 or 0 and an ID should come up, like a series of numbers. Then just go to the xm radio web site and follow the instructions, its probably 20 bucks to activate and 10 bucks a month. I'm sure Sirrus is similar.

You need to get the tuner installed and the antenna, or do it yourself. My dealership quoted me $650 to install, which is ridiculous for a 1 hour install. You can buy the sirius or xm tuner from grubbsperformance.com for like 288, and the antenna for 40 or so. As long as you do not attempt the roof mount install (which looks stupid anyways), it is an easy install.

There's about a thousand threads about doing the install yourself in the audio/video etc section.

The window sticker says you get free activation and 3 free months for XM.
