Cant Fill Up Tank

I only had this problem a couple times at first when I first got the car.
Lately, I cannot fill up the tank. Most times it will only get 3/4 full, but the other day, I could not get more than 3 gallons in it.

Anyone know what causes this, or a solution?

My car was doing the same thing as well. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the fuel sending units. Fills up fine now. What year is yours?

I had the exact same issue with my 03.5. The dealer fixed the issue with no complications.

What ? If you have 5 gals left in the car and you go to fill it up it limits the amount you can put in the tank??? I thought this was a physcial limitation based on the amount of gas the car holds. As for whether it tell you on the dash if you havea full tank or not, that has to do with the sending unit...

Most likely it's your fuel pump assembly that's causing the problem. Mine started doing this right before the gas gauge started acting up as well about 4-5 mo. ago.

Hurrry, Take it in it's about to EXPLODE...5...4...3...2...1...TOO LATE, You're no longer a G owner...lol

too many factors to consider. most likely its the fuel pumps problem. if it has a vapor recovery hose, just pull it away from the gas filler. it allows the gases to escape instead of tripping the pump off.

Wierd, mine just started doing the same thing... it's a 2003.5 as well. I've already replaced the fuel sensors (about 10k miles ago) that were causing the fuel gauge to read only 3/4 full when filled to the top.

Hmmm...weird, this happened to me the other night. Only mine is an 05 sedan and I filled up 7 gallons, when my tank was empty. It just wouldnt allow me to pump anymore gas. Should I bring it to the dealer too then?

From what I was told, once the gas stops pumping, for any reason, you need to stop. I was also told to not try to top off the gas, once the gas stops, then stop. If you keep trying, it will screw up something where you won't be able to put in any gas after that and you have to take the car to the dealer to get something fixed. There is some type of valve in the gas opening or something. I think all of the Nissan's with the VQ35 are like that as that was the same for my Murano.

I have never heard of this... If the gas stops at 28.87 I usually go to 29 bucks. I have not heard that added the additional 13 cents will damage anything. And if it did, it is a poor design...!

There's nothing wrong with the design from this respect. The admonition to not top off is based on not allowing excessive fumes or liquid to be released to the atmosphere.
