Oil Change Upgrade

Has anyone used any other oil and filter other than the dealer's?

I'm thinking of upgrading my oil and filter, but I have yet to find a good option for our cars.

Does anyone have any experiences or ideas?

Thanks.

Mobil 1 with a K&N filter after the first 1500mi. Do Blackstone oil test (with TBN) every 4,000mi.

I broke in the engine with factory oil. I now use AMSoil 100% Synthetic.

Did you notice the difference when you changed over to synthtic oil?
Does it run smoother?
How often do you change it?
What kind of filter do you use?

For me, I switched over to Mobil 1 around the 3k mark [if memory serves me right]. I've been using a Bosch oil filter. Since the Bosch filter I buy is the standard replacement for the G35 [i.e. it is small like the factory stock unit], I still change my oil and filter every 4k miles.

I read that you need to use regular oil till you have 20k miles? After that, its safe to go synthetic... Thats what Im doing (3400 miles so far though lol).

There is no noticeable difference after the switch to synthetic. The oil filter that I use is also from AMSoil. Visit http://www.amsoil.com for a huge amount of additional information.

After reading about Amsoil, I ordered some. It's sitting on my front doorstep. I'm switching from Mobil 1, also use K&N filter.

Eric... Nice numbers. Did you use M1 or the new stuff, extended performance I think it's called. Also did you use any additives like LC? If you've seen my UOAs, you know that Mobil1 doesn't like my VQ; I switched back to dino. When did you add the makeup oil... was it close to the end of your interval? If so, that would in effect lower your wear numbers. Lotsa questions 'cause I'm wondering why I can't get numbers like these.
