With all of the threads relating to poor mileage, I felt the need to share.

Has anyone logged (verifiable) mileage worse than 8 MPG? I recently attended a track day where I was burning (according to NAV) 1/2 gallon of gas PER LAP!!!!!

I was able to turn 3/4 tank of dead dinosaurs into global warming within 2 sessions (40 minutes) of foot-to-the-floor driving. Beat that, you hybrid-driving, tree-hugging, fuel-sipping pantywaists!!!

You sure it wasn't worse than that? At 8 mpg and 0.5 gallons per lap that's a 4 mile track.

I was watching monster garage the other night when they were building a jet powered Toyota Celica. It burned something like 30 gallons in a quater mile.

 

Haha, that is funny right there. I remember reading about the SR71 Blackbird a long time ago. Talk about a drinker...

 

Anyone see the Monster Garage where they ripped the '04 350z Motor/Tranny and put it in the ~70's Bumblebee Datsun?!!

That was insane. I can't imagine how that little thing would drive.

But you were no a track, I do 8 to 12 on the road... Im starting to believe that there is something wrong with my G... Ill try inflating tires as my trunk is empty already... (driving slow is not an option btw)

LOL, good thing gas is still cheap I think if my wife found out I tracked her car I would have bigger problems then 8mpg. Sound like you had great fun, congrats

 

I was doing about that at my trackday last week too.

 

I thought gas was cheap too, until I had to refill at $6.30 per gallon. .........track prices SUCK! (It was 100 octane, however)

 

Autocross definately eats into my mileage. 6-8 runs around a 70-second course will eat nearly a 1/4 tank and drop my total tank mileage by about 4mpg, compared to just commuting to work on the entire tank. Definately fun, though.
