Brake Pads...Aftermarket, Dealer or not?

Ok,
Need to replace brake pads...so I have two questions.

1.) Do I go with aftermarket? If so, which ones (for longevity not autocross)
2.) Take it to the dealer, or a brake shop?

(this is my 2nd set-1st were replaced under warranty at 30k, now have 52k)

Thanks in advance.

I would not go to Infiniti of Columbus. They installed the squeakiest brakes I've ever owned and will do nothing but spray brake cleaner on them for me.

Pads and rotors I'd do myself. Easy maintenance and you get to know your car - spend some time underneath her and all.

I plan on replacing my factory pads with more factory pads depending on the wear I get out of this set. A lot of guys here swear by the HAWK pads - you get better wear and they don't dust up as much or so the story goes. They say you'll also get better performance. I'm really pleased with the amount of dust created by the pads on my 05 (virtually none) and the performance but don't know if they are compatible with previous year's brake system - it seems unlikely.

I may be buying myself a round of cross-drilled rotors for my birthday so I may be changing pads in the fall. I look forward to working on the G - it's good to know what makes things tick.

i'm perfectly happy w/ the stock 05 pads. virtually no brake dust. be interesting to see if some can benefit from the new pad material and if it will in fact fit. funny that you can tell prior to 05 models on the freeway just by looking at the rims. hehe

That, and both the base and upgraded wheels are new for 05.

Past warranty, I don't see how I would take it to the dealer to do pads and rotors, maybe if it were just pads. Unless the '05 rotors/pads could be retrofitted to the car, these materials simply do not last long enough to warrant the extra cost for going to the dealer.

Given the wear on these things, I'm surprised I haven't heard more people going to a brake shop that offers lifetime pads. Is trust the issue?

Ok, here is a follow up:

Got 2 estimates for fr. brakes/rotors:

Dealer=570 installed
Midas=550 installed

Everything G35=220 shipped for OEM rotors/pads (pads are newest compound that just came out a month ago and are SUPPOSED to wear better)
I will have a brake shop put on the pads for about $100 more
Total=$320

I have a feeling a lot more people are going to be calling Justin from Everything G35 as their brakes wear out.

Do the pads at the dealer. I just have them put on new pads every time I take the car in and they do it for free.

What are you taking your car in for? Where are are you getting the pads from and what type/how much? I also need to replace rotors, and it does not seem to make sense to replace rotors and not do pads at the same time. I cannot imagine them putting on both pads/rotors for free.

Thanks.

If i was you, I'd look into some EBC green stuff pads with the matching EBC sport rotors (cross drilled and slotted) around $600 front and rear then install them yourself. just my opinion.

I bought my G35 sedan used with 27K miles on it. The brake pads were allegedly replaced at 23K. At almost 30K, the front pad wear indicators started squeaking. The car was beyond the "recall" warranty, so I had the front drums machined and new "lifetime" ceramic pads installed for a total of $150 (their top of the line service) at Brakes Plus in Denver. Such a deal

Ummm...you know the extended brake warranty runs up to 36K, right? Unless you have an '05 it would have been covered.

DAMN!!! You could do it yourself for MUCH cheaper. I would never pay that much for a brake job. That's rape!
