K&N Filter dirt in engine and oil on MAF
I too have used K&N filters in my last 6 cars. I use one in the G and in my 04 Armada. No problems at all. The Z-tube is definitely a sound mod, not performance mod IMO. It does give the car a more agresive sound at WOT, but keeps it quiet during normal driving. The K&N I had in my old Maxima was in the car for 106000 miles and I never had an issue with it. The key is to not over-oil it after a cleaning.
This is a response I posted concerning K&N products on another thread:

I have been involved in the motorsports industry for over 15 years. My partners and I own a very successful company that builds engines for Sprint Cars, Big Block Modifies, and Late Model Dirt Cars. If you have ever been to a main event at a sprint car race you know that I know a few things about engines, horsepower and dirt. Our company has NEVER suggested or recommended K&N filters to our customers.
The K&N marketing machine is very impressive, they spend millions on advertising a product that does not deliver what they claim. We have NEVER ran a dyno test that showed a K&N product creating more power in any application. Further more we have seen the use of a K&N product not properly filtering dirt many times.
Here is two links for information. Take the time to read the research and make your own decision.

I had to clean mine last week. My car had 12K miles on the K&N before the first cleaning.

If K&N is a big myth, then the company would've barely got off its feet when it started ~30 years ago. Look at how huge the company is today. That speaks for itself.
You may be able to initially sell products based on hype, but you can't do that for 30 years.

If all you care about is the first 100,000 miles of engine life, any old filter will do! You'll get thru the 60k warranty with no air filter what so ever. Unless you live near the desert.
Whether the next owner finds you in the future depends on how well you cover your trail. How's your Karma?
A well maintained Nissan [V6 or V8] [kept clean inside] should have no excuse not to make 300,000 miles.

Unfortunately at WOT the intake valves are the greatest restriction, then the MAF, hemholtz part of plenum, piping, then throttle body, ----the air filter is such a tiny part of the total restriction........the things that are expensive to improve.......valve diameter/curtain area/lift, MAF create the most measurable improvement.
Hearsay or comparing another brand of car' intake is pretty useless. Just make some measurements [vacuum restistance with manometers] on the G35 and see!

That moron Billy Mays seems to be making a fairly good living selling junk on "Infomercials".
Marketing is everything and hats off to K&N they have done a great job in building a very loyal following. Unfortunately a very mis-lead following. K&N products do not deliver on any of the claims they make.
K&N has a huge customer base of "retail customers", but for the most part professionals do not use their products unless they are receiving sponsorship money from K&N. I know of a few rather large race teams that receive money from K&N and cover their K&N filters with an Outerware Prefilters to protect their engine from dirt ingestion. Hell... a few K&N sponsored teams do not even use K&N filters. Go to a track get a pit pass and have a look for yourself
K&N got their start in desert racing. They were the latest and greatest, and then most desert racers stopped using K&N and changed to foam filters. Why? Simple the K&N's were allowing too much dirt into the engine.
