New G, Vibration from Day one

THe moment I picked up the car, it was vibrating like crazy. I checked the tire pressure and it was high, I brought it down to 32lbs but vibration was still there. I took it back to the dealer, apparently one tire was out of spec and they replaced all four tires. I would feel the vibration on the steering wheel and when looking at the passenger seat, it was just a massage seat, vibrating all over the place. I picked up the car same thing, still vibration. This time they rebalanced all tires, checked the wheels and tires and all is OK according to the dealer. Guess what vibration is still there, not so much on the steering wheel but definately on the passenger seat around 70 mph, it just goes crazy. I called the dealer to retake the car but before I do, I want to know if anyone else has had this problem. Any help or info apprecaited. Thanks

Definitely not here. Doesn't sound right to me - something's amiss. Mine is like glass...

My biggest complaint is the RS-As are a little noisy.

Is there vibration while revving the engine and not in gear?. Is it worse as you start to rev and settle a bit at a steady RPM? I'm thinking broken motor mount-I had one on a new Saab years ago. Also, I suppose a non-firing cylinder would vibrate the engine-?lose plug wire? If it only when the car is moving there could be a defect in the bottom aero shields or something caught there. How about a very warped brake rotor?

But it is certainly not supposed to do this.

Tell us what they find, and good luck.

Not sure about reving the engine and see if there is vibration. As for being on idle, there is no vibration. I will check the reving and see what happens but I can say it definatly sucks... Will keep you all posted.

Don't know if this helps ......

Excerpt from a Balancing article
“Unbalanced tires will cause a vibration in the car that usually starts about 50 to 60 km/h and gets more pronounced as the vehicle speeds up. Vibrations in the steering wheel may be from an unbalanced front tire, while rear tire vibrations are usually more apparent in the seat or body of the car. Most tires are balanced within one-quarter of an ounce, or seven grams. Wheels and tires that rotate at higher speeds, such as race cars, may need even better balance.
There are some vibrations that feel like a tire balance problem but are caused by other problems. Mud is one culprit; if it sticks to the inside of a wheel it can put it off balance. A trip to the wand-style car wash should fix this problem. Sometimes tires will be out of round from sitting too long. This is often most noticeable in the winter, but happens in summer too. This type of vibration will be noticed at low speeds (10 to 30 km/hr) and should disappear after driving for a few blocks.
Other vibrations are caused by out-of-round tires, poorly positioned belts inside the tire, bent wheels, bent axles or out-of-balance brake rotors. Modern tire quality is very good, so out-of-round tires or bad belts occur rarely. I often see vehicles driving with bent wheels, while hitting a curb or other solid object can bend an axle too. I had a truck with only a .005-inch bend in an axle, about twice the thickness of a sheet of paper, and it was noticeable on a smooth highway at 100 km/h.

A problem called radial force variation can also cause vibration. The tire's sidewall rubber acts like a spring. If the springiness of the rubber is unequal around the tire, it causes the tire to bounce, just like it is out of balance. There are tire balancing machines that will test for this by spinning the tire with a rolling load placed on it. If the radial force is too uneven, the tire must be replaced.

If your car's tires start doing the shake, rattle and roll, have them checked for balance. Driving with an unbalanced tire places more load on suspensions and wheel bearings. It also puts uneven forces on the tire tread that will cause it to wear unevenly; these tires will still vibrate even though they have been rebalanced.”

Great info inT.

hg, maybe you should take your car to a reputable independent wheel/alignment shop and see what they come up with.

I address my concern about this possible issue before I bought my G. There were reports of the bridgestone EL42 tires on TLs and other models that caused vibrations at highway speeds. My car also has these tires and I don't experience any of the issues. They were going to charge me $100 to have them swapped out with another Gs Goodyears. I told them to forget it.
I hope I don't run into this issue myself down the road.

I've had the same issue with my 05 6mt since I got it in Feb. They have the Goodyear NCT's on. I've brought it multiple times to the dealership for rebalancing...nothing worked...vibration in steeting wheel approaching 60 til 85.

On my 4th visit, the dealership brought it to an independent alignment/tire shop and now they say that there are bumps in 4 of the tires sidewalls...much more severe in the 2 fronts but minor in the 2 rears. I asked what they meant by bumps and they said that it was belts shifting.

At any rate, they rotated the 4 tires, and so it drives much better. However, I have to go to a Good year dealership for them to replace the tires; the Infiniti dealership said that this would be my best options (since they warranty the car but Goodyear warranties the tires).

So, I went to a Goodyear dealership yesterday and explained the situation to them. They have to inspect the tires themselves and and will let me know. They could not do it yesterday so I have to go back sometime soon...

Sounds like a batch of defective tires. Hopefully, Goodyear will replace them for you free of charge.

Great info from all of you. I really appreciate your help. I will be going one last time, 3rd time in fact, to the dealer to see what they say. At least it started from day one and they are doing all they can to help out. If it continues after this last attempt, I will have them take it to a tire place to inspect further... Will keep everyone posted. Thanks again

I had this problem with my Infiniti I35 prior to getting the G35. Infiniti corporate was no help and forced me to file lemon law. The dealer took me out of the car at a loss to me but gave me 2.9 financing back when they were not dealing (Feb 04) and also car at 50.00 over invoice. All in all it probably cost me close to sticker with the I35 loss. But coporate sucked. The dealer said he would probably get me a ourtesy disbursement from coporate for all the BS I had to go through. That never happened. So, I sold my Infiniti G35 last month and never want another thing to do with Infiniti or Nissan. Yes, the G was pretty awesome. But it was a personal thing. The experience ruined my daily driving experience. I will never purchase one of their products again. And my brother in law had a Z350...front end problems, tires feathering. They fixed it and 11000 miles later , now tires feathering on other sides. Datsun..er Nissan checked the alignment and it was in spec so they said they would not do anything. He called corp as the car was under warranty...they refused to help. He has sold his Nissan. He will not purchase one of their products again. I know lots of fols are happy with these products but thought the rest would like to know that problems exist and nissan/infiniti does not stand behind the product.

I hate to hear these things happen and companies lose customers because they are a$$holes. I have also experienced such customer no-service with another auto maker, Ford. I had a Ford Explorer and after about 25k I started to have paint problems. The paint was started to "check" which is caused by too much primer being applied at the factory. At first, I was successfull in getting all TOP surfaces repainted. Everything was great for a while until right before my warranty runs out and the rest of the car (which they declined to repaint the first time) started to "check". I was NOT successful in getting them to take care of it this time, although the new "checking" was discovered and reported before the warranty ended. To say the least, they were slow in the process and when they finally decided to "talk" about it, the warranty had expired. I sold the Explorer and came out fine (above Blue Book) despite the paint issues since I kept the Black paint spectacular looking (had to be right up on it to see the "checking"). None-the-less, I will NEVER own another Ford vehicle again. It's not that I think they produce a poor product, but there lack of care for their customers ruined everything. I know every auto manufacturer is prolly like this. The fact of the business is that no-one stands behind their products when it's gonna cost them that much money to make someone happy.

So far, I'm happy with my G and hopefully it stays that way. G35Sedanman, sorry to hear about your customer no-service you experienced with Infiniti. I know how much it SUCKS to spend that much on a car and be treated like that by the maker.

Good Luck with your new ride!

Hey my parents just got a Garnet Fire 05 and they were complaining of the same issue. I will have to let them know that others have experienced the same. Keep us updated.
