2500 rev limit in safe mode?
2500 rev limit in safe mode?
Today, I went out and started to learn how to drive stick in my new G. The person who was with me gave me a few pointers then I started driving. Now granted, this was my first time ever driving stick before and I wasn't the smoothest in getting the car going but (I think I stalled twice) but then I got rolling. I never grinded a shift, or bucked the car much at all.
After driving for about 5 minutes, I noticed that the engine wasn't idling smoothly. The RPM's were fluctuating somewhat, sort of like the engine had a slight misfire. Then I noticed that I couldn't rev the car over 2500 rpms!!!! I never had any check engine light or other indicatior light come on. From previous experience, I figured one of the car's control modules (most likely the ECM) had gone into some kind of safe mode. Sure enough, once I turned the car off, for 3 minutes or so, then started it again, everything was fine and seems to be ok now.
I only have 80 miles on the car, and the car drove perfectly fine last night coming home from the dealer. The engine has not been revved over 4,000 rpms. I know it takes awhile for the computer to calibrate itself, but what could have caused it to act this way?

if i were you, i'd take the car to the dealer PRONTO and have them check it out. hopefully, the error code is still on the ECU, and they can tell what's wrong with the car. thou shalt not risk ignoring this!
