Angry Burned My Transmission!!!

OMG!!! I was driving home from a basketball game between my friends and myself and I was in "D" (Drive)....Suddenly, as I turned right, my hand accidentally moved the shift **** into "N" (neutral) at about 20 mph...and I tried to move it back to "D" again but it wouldn't go anywhere so I pulled over in the shoulder/bike lane. All you automatic guys, you know where it tells you what gear you are in under your speedometer (i.e. - P, R, N, D), when I came to a complete stop, that little yellow lit box was empty and had no gear written in it!!! I f-u-c-k-e-d up bad!!! How much do you guys think a new transmission will cost me???...$ 5, 000?

this should not be a problem. going from neutral to Drive shouldn't hurt anything. UNless you are at a complete stop. This is a warranty issue, call your infiniti dealer and push for a new tranny under warranty. tell them you don't know what happened, but now it won't go into gear. Demand a fix, this is not your fault.

it's a 2004 - the drivetrain warranty is for 60,000 miles, if i'm not mistaken. don't tell me you've already driven over 60k miles in less than 2 years! you should be ok - DON'T PANIC.

Um how does going from neutral to drvie while at a complete stop do damage to the car?

I would think the only way he could have seriously damaged his tranny is if he was coasting and then slipped it into reverse...

Check your fuses first. If you have no lights, it sounds like an electrical problem - maybe shiftlock is involved.

This may or may not be in addition to a mechanical problem.

What you did should not have burned anything. Take it or have it towed to the dealer, and let the warranty fix her up.

This should be an easy fix for the dealer as it highly doubtful you could have done anything by slipping it out of gear and into neutral and then back into gear. In fact that is a common thing I have done with other vehicles in the winter to avoid brake lock up in slippery conditions.
It's hard to believe that condition would do major damage.
Good luck.

Yeah, but the flat bed truck still needs to get there first! You know what guys, Infiniti's 24-hour road side service sucked yesterday. I waited 2 hours and 45 minutes , when they told me it would take 45 minutes or less ! I called AAA after waiting 2 hour 1/2 for Infiniti to come and they came in 15 minutes-just when the other guy came! So I told AAA thanks, but since the other guy came, I didn't need their help. However, the AAA guy was such a gentleman that he waited and oversaw everything to make sure that "America's Towing Co. (Infiniti's towing) did the flat bed correctly. The AAA guy said that he had done the same thing to one of his cars a few years prior, and he called it "bumping the transmission". To top it all off, the Infiniti flat bed truck did not take my car to infiniti of Thousand Oaks last night because the service dept. was closed so he took it to his lot in Van Nuys where my car is still there now!!!! It should have been at Infiniti 2 hours ago!!! Also, the flat bed truck guy for Infiniti didn't believe me when I told that the car does not lock when the key is "in" (b/c the key was not coming out!) so he left my two front windows open! Lovely, because Van Nuys is not a good area especially on Friday night. My car is probably stripped of its seats, the Bose, rims, etc, by now. Well, at least nobody can steal it because the car does not drive right now -lol. I have "Low-Jack" too but whatever...

Good luck brotha.
I'm sure its an easy fix. Doubtful you can "burn" a tranny while doing that. Its more likey electrical related as others posted.

I used to drop my mustang all the time.....easy as pie

Ok just got my car back. Everything was under warranty and they completely replaced my gear shifting assembly, including the box for free. I love Infiniti of T.O. as they did it all in under 1 hour.
