You can get 88 mph out of 3rd at 6500 rpms. Thats still 10+ Mph out of a gear... 4th MIGHT have worked... but you would have stayed even until you hit about 85 in 4th. Going to 3rd (while it requires you to do a little more work) would have given you the most of your car. Whoever said just going 3rd for that short wouldnt work.... you stay in 4th, ill take the 10-15MPH out of third... it doesnt seem like much, but thats atleast an extra hood length to the car in third.

Actually, 5th & 6th are both overdriven. 3rd is good to 90 MPH, but it's a pretty violent downshift at 75 MPH. Still - if you wanted the "slingshot" effect, 3rd will get you there, and you'll shoot by him if you upshift to 4th cleanly.

Nonetheless, I did almost exactly what you did, out of anger, with an Acura Integra GSR "riced out" with big wing, etc. - and if he'd had nitrous or forced induction, he'd have eaten my lunch. I just got on it in 4th (at about 3500 RPM's), took forever to even begin pulling alongside, and finally went by him at about 125 MPH in 5th, grabbed 6th and let him know I had more for him, but still felt like an idiot for two things #1) Not shifting properly and embarrasing myself and the "G", and #2) doing something that stupid to begin with.

I deserved to be embarrassed, and try to use that as my motivator to not get into such "tussles" in the future (although my willpower is still too weak to be certain it won't happen again).

You let him off this time. Next time gear down more, 4th or even 3rd. Should have no problem.
And you're right about tailgaiting...That's asking for trouble.

Would you be able to double tap from 5th to 3rd in an auto trans? Or would you be forced to go into 4rth by the ecu?

^You'd be better off just throwing it into straight up D

I used to use manumatic to downshift to quickly shift lanes in a tight squeeze, but its so much easier to just slam on the gas, let the car downshift for me, and then by the time I switch lanes the car takes off.

Again... 5th is not an overdrive in the G35... its 1:1 ratio.... NOT over drive

Our only overdrive gear is 6th.

Show me proof that accords are getting 13.9-14.2 lol

next time check the "V6" badge on the rear of the Accord first. If the badge is red color, it is a 6 speed. If it is black, then it is an auto.
Most likely it is an auto because there's hardly anyone buy stick in the Accord. And so if it is an auto, when the guy slams on the gas, his tranny will downshift to 3rd. Therefore, he'll burn you anytime when you have your gear in 5th. Case closed.

This site shows the 2004 Accord Coupe EX V-6 running a 14.5 quarter mile and the G Coupe at 14.2. I am sure with some mods this is possible.

Do the hybrids come in coupe? If not, the hybrids aren't the fastest, but they do pretty daen good for gas savers. 6.6 to 60 by some mags. One other thing to consider is that only the coupe V6 comes with a 6spd, the sedan only comes with autobox.
