True performance test
True performance test
I am interested in getting an intake/exhaust for my sedan. My problem is will i get a real performance gain or a trivial one.
I am not willing to dish out Lots of money for no real gains. Like you see some mufflers supposably give u a few horses which is not worth it to me. One test I have not seen on any of the forms is has anyone with a stock sedan raced anyone with say a intake and exhaust or whatever other mods and if so what where the results.

Re: True performance test
I've been reading the posts for a while and my conclusion is CAI's provide little to no gain...sometimes hurt hp. Exhaust, I don't think there is any good data out there yet. If you want a sound change then do these mods. By the sounds of it the OEM intake and exhaust are well tuned as is.

I feel the same way guys. When i upgrade i want at least 20, 30, 40 or 50 horses. I think i'll just wait till a supercharger comes out for the G, then i'll upgrade.

Again, I have to agree with all the others. Non of us want to waste mone on 5 -10 hp. I'm really hoping that they might come out with a chip that will really open this thing up. I wonder if a CAT back exhaust would help coupled with the chip; however it is painful spending $3K for minimal hp change. I love the car, but I must say 330+hp out it would be fantastic.

Stillen.com has several parts for sale. At my Infiniti dealer the service advisor told me the owner's son purchased the stillen cold air intake, stillen exhaust, upgraded brakes & 18 inch rims. The service advisor told me after a dyno test he gain about 18-20 hp. He also told me u could notice the difference. This would run u up about $700 dollars (brakes and rims not included). Stillen is also coming out with a supercharger (YES). there still testing / shoud be out in a month. Also GPP has a twin turbo 350Z. (same engine). Hopefully, G35 bound too. I will be getting the cold air intake and the exhaust soon. I will know first hand.

Here's the min. you have to get before you feel anything.
Headers
Exhaust
CAI
by themselves you will not feel hardly any gain, but with all 3 items togeather you will feel it. Expect around 35 hp increase at the wheels.
Now here's the catch. You need to find the right combination of parts. Some Exhuast/Headers will actually lose you HP. Personaly I'm waiting for Nismo to come out with there line of parts. Stay away from cheap parts made by generic companys. They might be seem like a bargin but they will give you no HP increase and you could actually lose HP

....Sigh....I like to see people sit on the fence and watch others work. This kind of attitude frustrates me when people want to go swimming, but only after swimmers have tested the waters first for sharks. Without buying and installing the equipment, (or even dyno the mods) one does not have the right put out any opinions worth listening to. Also buying the equipment targeted for the sedan would raise a flag to the vendors. Since there is increased chatter on this board regarding mods, this would let vendors see that there is growing interest in sedan mods. A good example is Stillen and Injen. I do not plan on getting a supercharger as I value the reliability and warranty of my car. I am currently waiting on my HKS exhaust to arrive and then it is off to the dyno and then I can post some real numbers. Current mods are listed below. Don't know about taking my G to the track. If you do add mods, please post impressions and dyno results if possible. I will post my dyno results next week.
Mods:
Stillen High Flow Box
350Z Intake Ducting
GG Grounding Kit
HKS Sport Exhaust arriving next week.
Limited Edition Twilight Blue / Premium / Graphite / Xenons

Re: True performance test
I just went to the Stillen G35 day last weekend and had the Stillen exhaust and cold air intake put on my car. I had the car dyno before the mods. It came in at 261 before the mods were put on. Then after we did the dyno again. The results a true 22 HP increase. I couldn't believe it, so they did the run up on the dyno three times to satisfy my curiosity. They have done there home work at Stillen, as always. The cost for these mods installed was $789.00. I believe that was a fair deal for the HP increase. By the way the meet was awesome. The supercharged Z350 was there and puts out 360HP. They say that will be the same increase for the G35 when it comes out later this summer. These HP numbers are at the flywheel.
Re: True performance test
22 horsepwer that is pretty good. Whats kind of funny about that number is the inake supposedly gives you 11 horses and that would leave the muffler to adding the other 11 horses.
However something seems Strange. on stillens sight they mention nothing about hp gains for there muffler. why wouldn't they if it really produced 11 horses. They tell you the intake produces 11. I would want to let people now hp gains. there descriptions of the exhaust they mention more power and something like more agressive sound and thats it no mention of hp. Explain Maybe that dyno was rigged...Just kidding Hopefully Not

When I put my supercharger on my 2000 Prelude the cost for the supercharger and installation ran about $5400.00
If you live in California and 91 octane is the highest you can get, i would not suggest getting a Supercharger or Turbo. You will have to detune it so much to avoid detonation, the final HP figure you'll get won't be worth the money you spend.

Re: True performance test
The Biggest bang for the buck Is NITROUS True this Gas may scare off some from using it. But most of the Nitrous kits now days are pretty failsafe and you can on tuning expect any where from 40-150 or more hp increase. Unlike a Supercharge or turbo it only comes on when you want to use it. True it gets to be a pain to refill the bottle all the time especially if you "Squeeze" all the time. But a Basic kit costs around $500 My 2 cents.......
