OK, so the 35 stands for engine size, right? What does the G stand for...anything? What about the M in M45?

I remember reading a business case that discussed Infiniti's first "Q" and "J" lines of cars. Infiniti hired an American advertising company and spend big $$ for those two unique letters. They did not stand for anything.

At least we can pretend that the "G" stands for "GT". But in reality, the Infiniti names are meant to be brands, not abbreviations. And the most inportant thing about the brand is that you remember it.

I think it is the "luxury level". Q is highest luxury, I, J and M lower and G is the lowest luxury level.

I think it's a good question. I didn't even know the 35 stood for the engine size. By the way, how does the "35" relate to the engine?

Thanks for askin', Harley!

The G in G35 is 'Great', the M in M35/45 is 'Mucho', and the Q in Q-45 is 'Quintessential'.

Almost all cars use that number to denote engine size..

C-320: 3.2 liter engine
330i: 3 series 3.0 liter (i)nline engine
M45: 4.5 liter engine
745il: 7 series 4.5 liter

So now next time you see a car on the road you'll know what those numbers stand for.

I always figured 35 was for 3.5 (engine size) as well... and I agree, the G probably doesn't actually stand for anything (other than what you want it to). It's just in line with the rest of Infiniti's line - at the bottom, but I'm not ashamed! (although I have contemplated getting the M)

lmao!!! Miss-representation... Over-rating their own vehicle as usual! (just my opinion, but I'm sure someone will flame anyway)

What about the FX ??

I guess it does not matter. It is just the marketing Infiniti does. The numbers do matter as they represent the engine size. G35, M35/M45 ...

This is like when the band Chicago release their albums as numbers ... anyone remember ? I remember 20

The F is meaningless (my guess). However, the 'X' stands for "cross-over" as in cross-over vehicle. Just like BMW has the X3 and X5.

You bet I remember Chicago, even when they were Chicago Transit Authority! Remember their first hit?

And yep, it's just marketing, they try and stand out. I liked Colin's explanation of the names, good call sir! LOL, M45, Mucho as in Mucho dinero!
