Yet another paint rant

Over the past few weeks there's been construction on one of the roads I take to work. Gravel spitting up etc... I wash my G today and notice more small rock chips in the hood. **** me off!!!!

I gotta admit our paint is quite weak. My right side mirror has a few chips probably from little flying rocks on the highway. I seriously think my 1992 accord has thicker/better paint than my 2005 G. That's sad.

Yeah, our paint does suck. However, have you folks considered getting a clear bra type product? It works very well and is difinitely worth the cost, considering the headache and future paint costs.

my G is 2 yrs now and while I have accepted it's paint chips, I checked out my co workers STi (2 yrs also) and he has NO paint chips, none whatsoever, so I think Nissan really needs to step up on the quality...

I feel your pain too, I yanked my extension cord out and it whipped over and hit my car, made a 3/4" long scrap and took it down nearly to bare metal.

Previously, had an Acura and that was rock solid, after 10 years barely had 5-6 chips.

My hyundai tiburon had better paint and a better paint job than my G. It's my only serious gripe about the car.

My last car(240sx SE 1996) had maybe 130K miles when I sold it. And of those miles included at least 30 Vegas runs(LA/Orange County-Las Vegas about 280 miles one way) driving through blowing sand, tumble weeds and random crap thrown from trucks..... That car had fewer paint chips than my G after a single trip to Las Vegas.

Anyone have some close-up pics with a clear bra on their car? I've seen pics at a dealers site but would like pics from an owner.

I am buying a 2003 G35 Sedan that already has a clear bra installed from the selling dealer, and that's one reason I am buying it over several others. Every one I looked at up until this one had rock chips all over the front of the hood. I can't stand that!! I had a 1998 BMW M3 sedan a couple of years ago and the paint was soft on that car as well, every time I'd wash it I'd notice new chips. I won't let the same thing happen on my new ride.

The bra is hardly noticeable on my car's color (Brilliant Silver), but it might be more so on a darker color. But, even if it was glaringly obvious, it still would be a must-have for me.

It's actually not that noticable on darker cars either, unless they are dirty (which they often are )

I disagree with the guy who's friend has the STI. I just sold mine and after owning it for two years Suabru's paint is probably worse I had my front re-painted and they went thick just to prevent the chipping.

We don't have any chips in any of our cars, they all have a clear bra.

The value of a 3M clear bra on our rides is incalculable.
All leading edges including side mirrors and roof. Well worth the investment.
