G35x Testdrive....? from a noob
Good Morning Everyone
I've been lurking this site for little while trying to get as mnuch info on the G35 as I could. This weekend I finally went for a test drive. I was looking for a RWD with Sport Package...being in North Jersey the dealer i visited stocks more AWDs because of customer demand in that area....no biggie. So I take a G35x out for a spin. Overall I was very impressed with the handling of the car.
Onto my question...this is the first AWD car I've ever driven and i realize that it functions in RWD until the stability/traction control detects wheel spin. I always felt as if the car was holding back as if i were in a lower gear...I checked to make sure i wasn't in tip-tronic mode on th tranny...plain old drive.
So I am curious....is this a trait of the AWD system or does the RWD car feel like this also? I'm going to find another dealer to take another test drive....I'm just curious
Thank you
George

Hi Rich K
Thanks for the reply. The best way I can describe 'holding back"....have you ever driven in a lower gear....say 1st or 2nd? Give gas the car lurches forward...take foot off the gas and it pulls back power and applies engine braking.
That is how this felt...that is why i thought I was in manual mode in a lower gear but I wasn't. I was doing about 65mph and it felt this way...strange

The x is definitely geared lower than some other cars. At 35-40 ish the car is in 5th gear and I noticed that it does not free roll as much as some other cars that I have had including my toyota 4runner. I would not say the car is holding back or has that feeling at all. It seems to slow down more so than another car I had when I take my foot off the gas, but it is hardly noticable.
