30k maintenance - injector service
Took my 2003 sedan in for its 30k service. It cost $420 and they tried to up-sell me for some injector and throttle body service. I'm guessing they put some additive in the gas to clean the injectors and the valves. They also must spray something on the throttle body to clean it off.
I declined that service, for which they wanted $168, in favor of doing it myself. Anybody know what sort of additives or solvents I should use?
BTW - the pictures they showed of fouled injectors, valves, and throttle body were hilarious - as if the car had been breathing nothing but tar for weeks.

1-2 cans of BG44K in the gas tank, 1-2 small cans of BG throttle body spray cleaner and various brushes and rags and effort.
To clean the plenum and runners above the injectors you need a BG vaporizing spray system.

I opted to pay for that service at 30K. After the TB service, the car seemed to accelerate better. At 60K I did not have the service done. When I installed my 3/4" Motordyne plenum spacer, I noted a bunch of crud around the TB. I took a rag and scraped some of it off, but I have no idea how to actually clean the TB. Anyone know how to do this properly?
Q45Tech - thanks for the advice. With what frequency should the plenum and runners above the injectors be cleaned? I don't recall seeing that on the list of services they offered. Also, the system you reference requires an air pump. Do you know of any alternatives for those of us without compressors?

As far as cleaning the TB, they say not to rub it with a rag......?????? just to spray cleaner in and let the engine suck the dirty crap on thru.

At least I got a new engine out of the deal.

Yeah, it was pretty much a ripoff. If they hadn't replaced my front pads and rotors, I'd have been a lot more disappointed.
