I'm going the insurance route...it's covered...only need to pay $300 deductible. I'll find out the appraisal in a few days and will let you know.

You know, that amount of damage really shouldn't surprise anybody. You've got a 3500lb car traveling anywhere between 40 and 45 mph. And raccoons are not particularly small animals either.

I'm actually surprised that more damage wasn't inflicted. Has anybody ever hit a 50lb dog at that speed?

As a test, and since Jimmy already needs to fix his car, I wonder if he would care to somehow launch a 20lb frozen turkey at the other side, at say around 40 mph? That would be fun.

Appraisal came in at $1,470....but they left out the cost & install for a new headlight...so probably $1,800-$2,000 total.
