Question Extended Warranty Help

I'm picking up a new G 35 and I need some advice on which way to go with the extended warranty.

Is it worth it ?

I believe it covers everything except wearable items i.e. wiper blades, brake pads etc.

Comments please.

The G is still pretty new but since my others cars has always been MB or BMW. I always think that extended warranty its a good insurance if you plan to keep your car for more then 4 years as thing will start to get ugly after that.

But I did not get the warranty for my G as I also own two 300zx a NA and a TT. I have never had a problem with my 300zx during the 5 years ownership of both. I don't intend to keep my car more then 5 years, so with the type of faith I have with Nissan/Infiniti, I opt out.

On average most people keep their cars about 5 years, and put 50,000 to 75,000 miles on it during that time. If you fall into this category, I say forget the warrantee, however, if you plan on keeping the car more than 5 years and drive a lot of miles, it might be worth the investment. Reality is you will not see any benefit until the standard warrantee is expired after 4 years.

Extended warrantees are a big money maker for car dealers; they push them for that reason. Unless your getting a car that is very expensive to repair and very unreliable (e.g., MB, BMW, Audi) extended warrantees don't pay. My wife's last car was an Audi A4 and I paid $1200 the ext. warrantee and Allstate paid out $6000 before we sold it at 89,000 miles. However, I don't have ext. warrantees on my Miata or my wife's 2004 G35x; because they're sufficiently dependable. The warrantee companies make their money on the people who buy warrantees on cars from Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc.
